Hello fellow Marines! This has been a long term project thats only come to an end today. With the arrival of Matt Noble's fantastic ab-pad and grenade straps I was able to (almost) finish off the display.

The armour itself was cast from a Terry English set by myself as a one off. Every part was moulded with thickened RTV silicone and backed with a fiberglass mothermould before being cast in fiberglass, trimmed, cleaned and sanded smooth.
Mig black powder mixed with white spirit was used to dirty the armour. While it was still wet i wiped most off with a cloth. Gives a very nice matte finish.

The lamp head still needs completing but the parts are on their way from matsuo :)

The only parts left I need to source are the BDU top and shotgun. Ill hopefully hunt those down soon.

Anyway, onto the photos. Any questions just ask :) thanks for looking.

Looks incredible. I am in the process of doing a lifesize Hicks as well and your pics (and parts I got from you) will come in really handy. Is the pattern on the armor screen accurate on your build? It's an absolute nightmare trying to sort half decent pics of his armor as the movie is so dark.

Great job on the shotty holster as well. Did you estimate the dimensions or did you have plans to work from?

Great job once again.

Cheers

The holster/scabbrd was made based on screengrabs and other info.

See this thread for details:

I can let you have the e-mail address of Karl who made ours (he made 3 at once, to keep the costs down), I doubt Karl would make a single one on its own, but you can ask him how much. :)

One thing to note: The ones he made do fit the shotty rather tightly, so the next ones could do with being about two inces wider, to give the shotty an easy in/out. :)

Hi Nick,

Is the armor pattern screen accurate? It's hard getting any meaningful references from the movie as it is so dark throughout.

Thanks heaps PVB for the link and info. Much appreciated. I am pretty keen to give it a shot myself so was after dimensions mostly.

Hi! No i didnt copy the pattern from a screen used set as like you say its very hard to see in the film. I felt confident enough after painting countless sets to freehand the pattern myself :)

I don't have a lot of great pics of Hicks in his armor, but here's a few if there's any interest:

I think that one was the second or third set - this one has the noticeable "butterfly" pattern just under the stencil:

Thanks for the photos Willie! Kind of making me want to repaint my armour :/

One small thing that was bugging me about my display was the size of the buckles on the greaves. I (for some reason) used very small buckles so today I un-riveted them and added the correct 1" version.

No need to apologise :) I love seeing the photos you post, they've been a HUGE help on many projects.

That's a nice looking setup.

What is "Mig black powder" by the way? I usually just use assorted watered down black and brown acrylics for most of my weathering needs.

Thanks :) Mig is a pigment powder normally used on scale models but gives large scale props and armour a great dirty look when mixed with white spirit and used as a wash.
