Well, it's coming along nicely...

After a lot of searching stacks of dead ends and a lot of begging.

I've got my real Reflecta 3002 lamp set all ready to go.

I've got the box section professionally 3D modelled and just about to go in for printing.

I've sourced a rather elusive Vega diving torch and is on it's way from far away shores.

Box made hollow so I can fit batteries etc inside.

Lamp in the box...
This is already cast and ready to rock.

So finally some progress to report.

Very tidy, is the plan to sell these or is it just a build for yourself?

 Soo nice and professional!.

I'm designing shoulderlamp parts too (the arm and the lamp). Your example show me how to do things good. Sharing is the best way. :)

How many days did you spend designing the base parts?.

Well, this has been in the works for quite some time now....

Difficult to say how many hours I've put in this far.

Well, after months of searching, countless emails and a stack of false leads...

I can safely say.

Oh yes, it's mine... Oh yes..

Didn't come cheap, and I had to learn Italian...

Tidy very tidy. Makes you wonder what possessed them to use stuff like that in the first place, or why they had a ton of them lying about

They probably just went... We need a handle for a lamp..

Here's a lamp with a handle, that'll do!

Oh, we need a lamp.. Oh look, here's one. How can we join them together?
You know what... That key box on the door on the way in! That looks cool...

nice find, I'm interested in see what you come up with for the arm as its the weak link, I have had to repair mine twice!
they used items that were probably in abundance and cheap when the film was being made, my mate Jim is a prop maker now, he has worked on a lot of the newer sci fi movies and they always use what is cheap and availiable just in case they have to knock up a lot due to damage

Yeah, definitely.

It'll be off some camera stand, or light bracket or some such.

As for the bracket... I'm going to experiment with a few different resins and fillers. I've set my 'resin man' on the case to find a really hard and durable resin compound. And possibly going with a hard shore 95D PU style rubber. So if it does drop, it won't break. Yet it will still retain detail rigidity.

(Still working on that bit...).

Handle fresh out of the mould.

It required a bit of work because the original lamp itself is a funny shape. But all done and happy with the result.

A little bit more of an update.

The print for the main box has arrived and is now in the process of being cast.

Here's a few pictures.

Hollow to allow space for batteries and maybe even a small sound-board or a mars bar.

Sorted the light unit vanes, they'll be made from laser cut 2mm aluminium.
So mighty pleased with all that.

And also caught up with a chap, local to me who makes creature type stuff.... and found this little beastie lurking in a cupboard.

You should hide that facehugger in the next set of armour you send out, will give the chap who opens the box a fright ;)

Cheers,
Doug

A bit more...

Box has been cast and whilst the 1st one had a few air pockets which was to be expected, the results are pretty good.

Cast in Urethane Resin, and pigmented with the closest colour I could get to Brown Bess.
