The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Working with Harry, we were able to send these guys a sample of the original cellulose Brown Bess from the UK and they were able to color match it here in the States. If you're looking for a BB alternative, the price can't be beat:

Willie, have you received the paint and used it yet? I would love to hear what you thought of the accuracy and quality of the paint.

I have an early sample here - but I haven't used it yet. I believe "Timeslip" may have and we can ask him to chime in on it.

Is this airbrush only or brush too? I know someplaces get pretty specific on that with their stuff.

Airbrush only. Tried to brush it and the paint separates very fast. Seems very thin when airbrushing it. You will have to adjust your air pressure accordingly. The color does match very well to the real stuff. I have not played with the light shift properties yet. On a model it looks great. I haven't tried it on a prop yet for durability.

Any chance something similar could be arranged for brush-on paint? Sadly, don't have an airbrush, or the knowledge of how to use one...

Sorry guys got swampped today. I did shoot something I had laying around. Going to let it dry over night and do shots without and with clear coat. Also flash, no flash, and sunlight. So far it does look damn close to the real deal. Shooting the sample with my pulse rifle that is painted BB and clear coated.
I did notice the paint separates way to fast. Even in the airbrush jar. The paint lays down nice and thin. Maybe a bit to thin. If left uncleaned in the airbrush and jar a wierd black sludge apears and covers everthing. It is very sticky. Wierd. Also, this paint is water based but as it dries there is an oily shean to it right before full cure. Never seen that before.
More tomorrow.
George :D

Oh, I forgot one more thing. This paint has got some strange smell to it. Hard to describe. Not bad but strange.

I wonder if additional batches will have those same issues - or perhaps we can talk to them and let them know what's going on. The sample I sent you was an early experimental one, so it may have been slightly different AND sitting around for a bit of time.

Picture time!

The color is real close to the real thing. The shots in the sunlight were taken after I sprayed semi gloss. I think you all will be very happy with this alternate to Humbrol Brown Bess.

Was in a local model shop yesterday and saw a can of Humbrol 29 Brown (dark earth) spray paint, which looks pretty close too:

Has anyone had any recent tests of this? I'm interested in ordering a few bottles for when my Motion Tracker get here, and for some other things :)

I ordered some for my Motion Tracker a while ago. I'll post some pictures once it's all painted.

I haven't even gotten the paint yet actually. I'm picking it up when I'm going to Kansas.

How many bottles do you may need for a single motion tracker? Or are they sell it as spraycans, too?

I know this is an old post but they still have the paint up on the site. What was the final verdict? I was told today that the place I had originally sourced was a no go.

Thanks!

Greg

I so happened to discover that site... before this thread.
Was pleasantly surprised when I saw where the source came from.
(should have known)

Trouble is, I've written to them twice in the last month... with no reply.
