The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello guys! It's me, the guy that started with a $30 alien suit I made for a costume contest for my high school.

Image

well it's a year later and I've built up JUST ENOUGH money. there is a kit featured on ebay
I'm HIGHLY considering to buy it! however, I do not have any guides or any experience on how to construct the thing!

--Any tips for a new guy like me?

-What kind of Bodysuit and brand should I get?
-type of paint and brand?
-anything else I need?
-Is a mannequin an absolute need?
+ I feel like I'm "playing with fire" with this buy any advice that'll make me feel better and more confident to buy this? or should I not? I'm really into this kind of stuff though.

please reply quickly! the sale is going on for a week!

Thank you
~MutantWasp

Thank you guys so much, I wasn't aware of the auction coming up more than once that helps a whole lot. man o' man it looks like a lot of work, but as you said and from some experience it's definitely worth the reactions and peoples comments on it. I'll look into more of these.

Mutant,

The auction link you provided is currently live and unfortunately breaks forum rules on the posting of ebay auctions. You might want to edit your first post.

Wasn't it a 'Buy It Now', hence not an auction, so ok to put up?

Oh and good luck with it MW.

I'll be watching your build thread with great interest. I've always wanted to do a Xeno kit but kit costs and build logs have been few and far in between until recently. Good luck on your build bro!

It was indeed a Buy it Now sale, but my understanding is that "BINs" are okay only if they are a regularly offered item from an Ebay store. This usually means there is a quantity available over the buy it now button (10 available/1 sold etc).

I didn't see that with this particular auction and figured it was a one off Buy It Now. However the night I posted was also my first time clicking on the link- so I didn't know if Mutant originally posted an auction that had completed/ended or not and the seller relisted it.

It's still unclear to me if the link to the costume is a one off, last one available, or regularly supplied item. The mistake could just as easily be on my end and if so I apologize for the confusion.

At any rate, I still think it is in Mutant's best interests to take down the publicly viewed link just in case someone else beats him to it. ;)

My apologies for the side track.

Best of success with this! :delta:

Thank you for all the support guys!

I tore the link down to be "safe rather than sorry." for that, I didn't mind.

I talked with Jay (the guy that was doing the sale) and he said he has a full ready to go costume. I asked If I could purchase and he said sure. It's not the same as making it myself but the situation I'm in makes that very ok, I'll try to get pictures of it for you guys. We actually live near by each other to where I can just pick the thing up and pay him on the spot. I will receive it apox. September 9th.

Sorry for those that were expecting a build log. If all else fails and some changes need to be done to the suit I'll record them here.

This "Situation" involves me moving houses soon. If I have ordered anything, It would take a month's worth of shipping to do. If I have ordered and moved within that time that would... be very unfortunate. I am from a city slightly in the northern part of Colorado and I am moving to a suburb in Texas that is near Houston. Once I have moved I need to start work and work on getting a better education.

Lastly and on a personal note, Thank you guys for inviting and treating me like a friend. I have felt like I was a pest (or a wasp in this case) just buzzing around for the past few months. It means a lot for you guys to push me and treat me as a friend.

Build threads are awesome and informative, but threads showing someone happy in their new completed kit are pretty great too! Best of luck with it all, I can't wait to see how it looks!

Here is the Full kit, it is still incomplete and needs to be modified to my body.

Image

The biggest concerns I have now, are the tail and my eyesight. The tail can be fixed using a belt or harness but for the eye sight I was planning to put black nylon in the neck where the jaw would be so I would see forward out the jaw rather than the tiny eye holes that are made on the side. It would give the sight a "Natural Selection" feel. "Natural Selection" is a Video Game, If you haven't played that game then I don't blame you at all it's not that good. here is a picture of that game

Image

And as you can see in the background my dog couldn't care less about what is going on.

Nice one! You be careful if you meet any other dogs - Some REALLY don't like Aliens! :D

As for the vision - You get used to the sideways-vision quite quickly; I'd recommend you try making the eyeholes line up perfectly with your eyes. Viewing through the mouth might end up a bit like tunnel vision. But, whatever works for you.

For some reason I adore the name "Ruki" I don't know why... I even ask people to call me that sometimes.I could name the Alien that.

"Ruki" in my back story was actually a name I created by mistake! It was misspelled from another name I was going to go by which had to do with the word "Rookie." I was 16 and in the hospital when I made this mistake (Strong medicine...yeah.) and for some reason I really liked the name. This name was supposed to be "HospitalRookie" for an account name, for a Xbox360 that was in my room at the time.

Now that I really think about it I might have misspelled it on purpose, Just like Texting (ex. "I Luv u") I honestly don't remember most of the memories of the chemo days, they are really faded.

For those wondering I believe the medicine was "Benadryl" but when your 20 pounds lighter than normal and have a strong eating disorder from the chemo, this stuff makes you pass out like a brick.

So, I might name the Alien "Ruki."

Any other thoughts? I am willing to take some. Is it even an appropriate name for him?

Alien costume looks really great MW.

As for a name, I think it has become a bit of a tradition on here for most Alien names to begin with an A.

But of course as with all these things, the name is completely up to you, beginning with an A or not.

What about Aruki?

Martin

hmm...I really like that name as well. I'll think about the name. If the tradition is to start with an A I'll think of one.

EDIT:

You know, the name Aruki is pretty neat but again I don't know. I guess my Alien can go by that. It's not totally confirmed but I think he should go by that from now on.
