The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Retro can you post a video of your motion tracker in action? Lights and sounds and all?

Hey MAtt, as soon as I get the sound part worked out I will absolutely post a video. It doesn't "pulse", but having the image change is pretty cool.

Wondering if that image key chain thing will accept animated GIFs, as there are a few good ones out there? :)

Hmm, looking at eBay, some say jpg and bmp only, but others add gif, tif, etc., so think I'll try one of those. :)

I'm thinking about buying one of these sound cards:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200s-USB-module ... 3005wt_814

(the guy is selling hundreds of them so I don't believe this breaks forum rules)

It is 200 seconds, can be uploaded directly from a PC via USB (instead of holding the mic up to the speakers and losing a generation of quality), and is extremely small. In fact, it might fit inside the Hama viewer as it is very thin.

Any thoughts on this?

PVB: I'll try putting an animated GIF on mine, but it's pretty low tech. A newer one might be more savvy.

Could this work for my smart gun? Speakers probably way to small .. also how will you rig it to Geiger on from your motion tracker?

Sadly I won't know how loud it is until I get it. probably not loud enough for a Smart Gun though.

My plan is either to have it in the hollow drill body or in the Hama viewer. The first is more convenient for button pushing (my fingers are already there anyway), but the sound may be muffled by the resin. If I put it on the Hama viewer I can hollow out an area for the speaker and mask it with the Vivitar parts so that I have clearer sound, but I'll have to mount the button on the viewer which will require a more obvious button push every time I want the audio to play. Not sure which direction to go...

If it had the real flash part (with the led's and switches), you can use the switches to turn things on.
On mine I cut a hole out of the top of a real Hama viewer, which is hidden by the flash part when fitted, I then rewired the internals so that one of the switches turned on the bulb.
I also cut the wires off the led's, leaving just the lens part, and when the viewer is turned on the led's look like they are lit too.

So might be an alternative way for some, if the sound card is able to be fitted inside the viewer.

I don't know if they still sell them, but Radio Shack sold sound programable chips. I don't remember their capabilities other than you could load sound on them via your computer. I also don't remember if they had built in speakers. I just remember FNG talking about using them on his RC APC.

Your solutions to lights and sound are great Retro! And the stencil and metal ID plate might not be screen acurate, but it's those types of imbelishments that make it yours!

Finally trimming and adding my Vivitar pieces. I sawed the resin cast down and snapped off the edges for the bottom as the replacement piece is hollow on the bottom and can fit right over top. I'll need to saw and sand the entire resin bit off the top before I can attach the replacement pieces.

I need to go back to the reference photos of the original MT's to see how they painted the Vivitar part on the bottom of the slide viewer.

Finally, here is a side view of my Motion Tracker. Blame Ridley Scott's influence, but I just can't leave well enough alone. I've added a stencil on the side and some metal stamped stickers off an industrial device from my work's recycling bin. Sure the ones in the film didn't have these details, but mine does! 8)

That's awesome. I really like your personalised version. :) Those added greeblies are great.

Thanks man!

I've recently upgraded the number pad from a laminated printout to a real calculator piece. Thanks to Quarax for that!

Looking good. :)
By the way, are these buttons still 'kinda' functional/pressable or are they just the plastic sleeve?

It's just the rubber sleeve, but that certainly beats a laminated sheet of paper! It has a little give.

While the base is still the Spat fixer-upper, I've added a real HAMA slide viewer (with greeblies), (nearly) correct calculator panel, Jobo mini lite, self timer, metal disc, correct side tubing and a replacement resin timer box from Nick-a-Tron.

I'm still on the lookout for the remaining pieces, but comparing this version to what I had before I'm really satisfied!

With utmost thanks to Gary Pusey, Moosh, Noble, Bigbisont, Quarax and some awesome folks on the Weyland-Yutani Bulletin, I now have a real-parts Motion Tracker!

This has been a three year long quest and honestly finding all the pieces along the way has been really fun. I'm happily passing on my Spat and Nick-a-tron resin parts (along with a few real ones) to a friend to get him started. What a great feeling!

Finally found a T10 and modified it according to the directions on the Hyperdyne Labs website. I ended up leaving the T10 designation just because it has been such a chore to find one. This was the last piece I needed to finish this thing off!

I think if we can get some 3-d scans we can 3-d print some of these hard to get parts. Guess I will work on getting a setup for that. If we can get near replica parts we can help the community as a whole.

3d and cast parts are already out there and quite easy to get hold of. I have recently found all the genuine parts and i am also in the process of building it and painting it up.
For me having a real part tracker was the only way to go. Its also the thrill of the hunt finding that part you have been searching for months to find!
