Well I would have said Glenn the Thrusters would have been it, not sure what else is from the Harrier design bar them.

The dropship VTOL vents are the rear vents from a harrier so you'll need 2 kits to get the 4 vents. Also the new Trumpeter 1/32 kit is an AV-8B. The dropship vents were from an AV-8A. Comparing the trumpeter parts to the old airfix 1/24 kit the rear vtols are a slightly different shape (and the front ones are completely different).

Thanks Jon, you are the expert on the dropship build, 8)
yeah it was the Trumpeter 1/32 kit i saw , and for the price  of the kit, it's not worth buying for a couple of parts, i have the resin VTOL parts that was made a while ago,
Oh well just saved myself some money on this build, :) i have a couple of 1/32 scale kits already plus a box full of bits and pieces so should be able to manage, though it's not going to be a SA dropship..

Thanks for you help Guys..

The trumpeter kit is expensive... I'm actually building one right now to match Arnie's Harrier from True Lies.

There will be other Harrier kits produced. The first one is the USMC AV-8B but the English GR7 variants may be more use for the dropship since they may (and I stress may) come with the correct SNEB rocket pods.

the correct SNEB rocket pods. ( Matra Type 155 rocket launcher ? according to the internet.. ) was fitted to other aircraft so might be able to find a cheaper kit with those pods, though some how i doubt it!!

Wasn't it the 1/24 Airfix harrier that was the donor? If so go on the RPF studio scale forum and ask for those parts as that kit (but not those bits) was used on the ATAT etc.

Well i have the 1/24 scale harrier.. those parts just look too big on a 1/32 scale kit. i need to hunt around a few model shops , as those pods did appear on other planes, if it comes to it i'll try to make some?

Try to find out the exact parts you need. Write down the part
number, the model number and the company. Then call the company and ask if they have any extra parts ( that you need ).
Tell them you need them to finish a few models and you need these parts. They may sell them or give them to you.
some people in our club ( Model club ) that have damaged or lost
parts were sent new ones for the asking.

If that does not work then try asking other model clubs or
modelers if any have spare parts that you can buy....

Hope this helps

Thanks Jon i have seen this kit for sale very cheaply but not brought it because model kits these days have shrink wrapped plastic on the box, so i can't have a look inside.. :) so was not sure if these parts are in the box..

Will shop around to find the best price on this kit , once im back home..

I know what you mean - "kit" arrived Dec 23 2004. Started working on it in Aug 2005, then got a bit sidetracked at work. Been trying to build some other models which are finish-able in a reasonable amount of time.

I just remembered one other reason I lost interest in the "kit". Willie and Steve N and Jason E pestering me to make parts for them or to hand over any drawings or reference I have for landing gear of asking if I have anything leftover from my build that I didn't need anymore. I get enough people asking me to do their jobs for them at work but at least I get paid for that.

Sorry Willie - I've been a bit busy for the last 4 years working on a little film project that, thankfully, seems to be doing quite well at the box office at the moment. I hope you can understand that you're quite a bit further down my list of people who want me to do things for them than Steven Speilberg, James Cameron or Sir Peter Jackson.

Those are pretty harsh words Jon, and with respect I don't think Willie deserves to be spoken to like that. He offered the Dropship as what it was, as all it was when he got hold of the master from Barry - in fact more, since he also commissioned the tail fins to be made. If there was more to it in the first place I know he would have offered that too. It was entirely your decision to put as many hours into re-working it as you did. While you've done an amazing job those hours have apparently taken some toll on your patience.

I'll hold my hand up and include myself in that list of people who asked you for info and if we could buy castings of the parts etc. from you; but we did so because you have incredible skills in terms of producing that stuff; it's a real pity you didn't see the compliment there. We hoped that you'd offer anything to others who owned the Dropship in the sense of community that the group was set up to have. The whole reason that most of us are in this hobby is to share that sense of togetherness and to share information and reference with others, I know it gives me a good feeling when I get to help someone else out.

We all did as much as we could, Willie and I offered reference material on a CD to all DS owners. That was my contribution. Yes I know you didn't owe us anything but surely there are better ways of saying that.

Speaking of community it seems The Aliens Legacy might not be the place for you any more if you're going to address other members like you just did.

I'm not sure what the fact that you worked on 'Avatar' has to do with anything, all I can interpret that part as is that this forum isn't worth that much to you any more. I hope that's not the case Jon as you've been a good guy and a valuable part of our community, it'd be a shame to know you think so little of us all after all these years.

Harry

Personally, I've spent the last 18 months working 60 hours a week for Europe's richest investment bank. So, I don't have time for you little people. Screw you all! ;)

Harry, I think and hope that he was just name dropping and joking/being sarcastic, and didn't mean that how it sounded.

Thanks for that Harry...

For the record, I never asked Jon for parts for free as he stated above, what I did do was offer to purchase anything he'd want to share. More than anyone, I knew and recognized the value of the work, and would never NOT OFFER to compensate an artist for their efforts. Hell, my mom's an artist, my brother's an artist, and I'm a writer - so it's just not my style...

And when I posted if Jon got my email - the last email itself was an apology if I offended him over the years - not asking for anything... (but YES, I had asked for parts prior). So yeah, maybe I should have posted "Jon - did you get my apology" - and not "emails" - but regardless, the double barreled response seems a little harsh.

didn't sound like much of an apology - more like trying to figure out if I thought your previous request, which started with the words "hope this isn't outta[sic] line" was, indeed out of line.

So: yes I did get your mail - and yes I did think it was out of line and I didn't think it warranted a response at the time.

And you could have sent a PM asking the same question rather than outing me in front of the forum for not replying to you (and it's not the first time you've done that to someone BTW) when you already knew what the answer would be.

And Pug - it was more like 80-100 hours a week :P

Sadly, I couldn't afford one of the Dropship kits at the time - But I was always under the impression that everyone who joined "Dropship Club" did so with the intentions of producing a group effort, with each member doing what he could to move the build along and sharing those improvements with the rest of the group?

This is the first I've been made aware of any issues such as are being discussed here - But Jon, you did sort of start the bad vibes here with your sarcastic use of quote marks round the word "kit", and your reference to the kit being unfinishable within "a reasonable amount of time".

I think it might be best for all concerned if any remaining bad blood were cleared up via PM, any apologies that have been made were accepted, and for everyone to start afresh, as is somewhat traditional for this time of year.
Right?

[SIGH]

Jon - I didn't know you were disappointed with your "kit" (nice use of quotes in this thread by the way) until an email from you in June 2008. At which time I replied:

Quote:
Date: June 29, 2008

Jon:

Wow, err, I don't really know what to say, sorry your so disappointed... Please accept my apologies on behalf of everyone who's bugging you... I'm a television producer, not a model maker or kit producer - and had offered the "8 lumps of resin" to a group of people who all expressed interest in using them as a starting point for creating their own ship... Obviously that didn't happen as planned, but I did my best...

Sorry for the hassle - good luck with your kit.

-Willie

In terms of pestering - I only emailed you two other times over the course of eighteen months - despite no response, I still felt horrible you were disappointed with your kit and sent you:

Quote:
Date: September 3, 2009

Jon:

Hey there, hope this isn't outta line, wanted to check-in and see if there's any possibility of me purchasing any spare parts, molds, or other random pieces you may no longer need or have a use for? I know a lot of your work isn't applicable to the ship in its current form, but I may look into working on my own myself and trying to have a go at making it work.

if not, no biggie, and thanks again for all your help...

Hope all's well...!

-Willie

Again, no response, and again, me feeling bad you were hassled, I sent you a final email:

Quote:
Date: November 15, 2009
Jon:

Hey, it's Willie - not sure if you ever got my last - hope it didn't offend...

Hope all's well...

-W

So, you see it an an insincere apology, and me "fishing" or whatever - and if that IS how you really see it - then I DO apologize. But if you're going to call me insincere in public, I'm happy to let the public decide on their own.

b26354 wrote:

If I thought a PM would have gotten a response then "I didn't think it warranted a response at the time" then an email, I certainly would have.

b26354 wrote:

So, in the last 5 years, has anyone else made any progress? I know Tony dremelled out his intake vents and someone else rebuilt their pods from styrene.
