Post subject: | Dietrich / Frost Dump Bag |
Hello All, Out of interest... What kind of bag was the Dietrich / Frost dump bag? I presume it was different to the bag Ripley stuffs with grenades to rescue Newt at the end of the movie? Were the Dietrich / Frost bags the same? Were they modified in any way? Apart from a Red Cross of course... Kind regards... Pete |

Aah, the old question of what bag it is. ![]() This thread might help: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6280 The usual (smaller) bags are S6/S10 gas mask bags though. |

So it's NOT an S6... But the bag used by Ripley is an S6... And the Dietrich / Frost bag is some kind of larger Rangefinder bag? I found an older thread in the archives but the images had dropped away... |

Depending what you need it for, a gas mask bag should do. |

I suppose an S6 is canon enough in many respects... As a general purpose bag.. The nylon one or a Cordura one do you reckon? |

No idea what Cordura is, but the ones I have are a sort of shiny, tarpaulin-like material. |

Yeah nylon is the way to go. It has that classic Vietnam look. |

Noble says he *is* going to make an SA version of the bag at some point. Personally I'm holding out for that! ![]() |

Yeah - I reckon I'll hold out for a Noble bag... But a smaller S6/10 won't hurt... I suppose. |

Before I joined these forums I used to wonder what bags were used so I could try and find one. Then I got access to the Base_PX section, found the Noble thread and didn't have to bother any more. ![]() Not only do they give you space to store stuff bought at cons, etc. But being screen acurate they don't spoil the Marine look while you walk about. Double win. |

Sold! ![]() I need no convincing about Noble! Out of interest though, I would t mind knowing what the bag actually was... It's bigger than the S10/S6 by the looks of it.. But very similar in appearance... |

About the same size as the haversack*, slightly increased height and width, but shallower. Possibly a piece from the ultra rare '72 pattern test webbing that never went into production. Examples would have been comparatively easier to pick up in a random surplus shop in 1984/5 than they are today. A few are still knocking around, but they cost and are rare as rocking horse poo. *If ya wanna be proper geeky, S6/S10 refers to the model of respirator, not the haversack. The same haversack was issued for both respirators and both the '58 Patt and PLCE versions are almost the exact same dimensions. |

It's going to happen. When sourcing the webbing for the current run, I got the webbing for these already. Also got several OD cam locks, so the rare hardware is found. The bag material looks to be a 420D Nylon, so that is what I'll use. I've been wanting to make this bag for awhile. |
