Post subject:  Smart Gunner build.... Part 2
Well I have my Smart gun built... Headset and armor done. Steadicam arm is repainted. The last thing I am waiting on is Matt's smart gun attachment and I ready to rock as a full out smart gunner. I got the shoulder lamp painted and am weathering it down a bit. But I have hit a block. Should I try to rig up a spring board for the shoulder lamp to attach to the vest or attach it directly to the vest... Kind of like shown only with a plate on the inside for reinforcement. This way seems a bit easier to mount, and easier for convention usage... any thoughts out there?

Attached are my SG, Lamp, Vest, armor and arm pictures. I have started my attempt at weathering on the gear. Not shown is my headset which is shown on another thread. I hope to have the internal plate made for the vest/shoulder lamp reinforcement by the end of the weekend.

How much did the arm set you back? I have the same vest but mounted a codi cam arm to it. Matt made me special bracket that mounted the gun to the arm . Awesome work he did. Love seeing it come together . Chest plate is awesome too.

That I picked up on the Bay. I forget how much it was, but I was able to negotiate a little with them for just the vest and arm. The current vest looks a bit better than the one I got.

Hay Guys hope all well
I was woundering how much dose one of Mats Smart Guns weight? I have noticed over time you guys a using arms that take around 5-7 kg. I did have a big proplem to start with mine being a wopping 12-15kg but we (with help from chef) have come up with a way to beef up the arm with new springs so just asking out of interest

My SG comes in at about 11lbs. Actually I need to adjust the arm's spring tension down so the gun has more of a natural position. It actually rides too high. I wont be able to do the final adjustment till I get my mounting bracket thou.

Matt's "Mark 2" kit is phenomenal. My "Juliet" is the first full M-56 kit he ever produced, if I remember correctly, and the current model has tons of improvements over mine... Not the least of which being that it weighs about half as much! If I had the cash, I would have bought one of his new kits in a heartbeat.

And this is the Mk1, Mod 0 attachment for the shoulder lamp. If you use Matt's side attachment it leaves the spring board way too far to the side, and leaving the balance of material on both sides it looks even more weird. The Mk2 style I will just make a "cone" shape and that would have it more movie accurate anyway that would leave the bottom attachment with a second one up high by the handle.

I used a piece of scrap stainless steel sheet, the thick kind you would get a hobbytown, et al for use as a fire wall on RC planes. I bent it up at the shoulder to fit better. When wearing it, it looks alright from a distance. Up close it looks a weird if you know what you are looking for cause of the shape. I have two pieces of Velcro stuck on and it attaches to the Velcro already on the vest. Then I would get a piece of strap and wrap around the vest as an attachment, but with the big one on the back it did fine around the house. From what I could see in the colony patrol scene the actual plate is more of a "cone" and uses the tab at the bottom with a second that attaches to the handle. This method uses the two attachments like you would use for the normal marine armor.

Any I now have my full kit, less Matt's bracket. It should be coming in the next week. I will post full up pictures when I get it mounted. :) If anyone has any questions, just ask. I ended up calling her the FUFFY Bunny, as who wants to be smote by a rabbit... and also gives a nod to Python.

Yeah it is a Pelican, Model 1770. It was the only one long enough to fit an M56 in one piece. Rather pricy, but it will fit most of the kit, and I can box it up and ship it to my host hotel in a few weeks and I am sure it will make it in one piece that way.
