Kris kindly passed my way a VP70 that was in need of some TLC.
It was thickly coated in grey and black paint and didn't look very smooth.
So today with some time to kill I decided to clean her up.
After a good rub over with some white spirit, the brushed-on grey paint on the slide and trigger came off leaving a lovely smooth, clean resin cast. I was surprised just how much better it looked already.
The black plsticoat on the frame was more of a swine to remove and I had to sand a lot which was a shame because I started to find some lovely texture in the cast underneath. Never mind.
Gave it a couple couple of coats of black and some dry brushing.
I still need to sort out a barrel for it. I didn't have anything suitable kicking around so decided to crack on and add that later.
While I was waiting for the black to dry between coats I also decided to paint my tobacco tin.
I changed the colours a little because I didn't have some of the accepted numbers.
My brown has clearly had it's day and went on horribly. Though, it doesn't look as bad in person as the photos make out and I couldn't be bothered to redo it.
Unlike the original, I decided to paint the entire tin not just the lid.
Here they are:
