Hi all. Thought id document the journey of my motion tracker kit from a box of parts to resin parts ready to be shipped to eager builders :)

Ok so here are the parts i purchased from a member here. Was a real help getting most of the parts in one go.
Image

Then they sat in a box for months until the time was right to start work on the kit.

First job was to take the parts which needed little to no work and get them moulded. The self timer arm was lowered toward the body to get rid of the space between them which would have caused moulding/casting issues.
Image

No photos of the actual moulds but here are the first casts.
Image

And just a quick dry fit of the parts to get an idea of the final product.
Image

Ive also got the hama viewer almost ready for moulding and many many gaps and undercuts filled in. Many more photos coming soon.

You can also add nickatron props on facebook to see more build photos of this and many more props.

Very cool. You are going to be selling these as kits? What is your price point going to be?

Top stuff Nick!

Will there be any room in the viewer to put a blinking light or even a real screen? (Is it hollow basically)

Viewer will be hollow but how hollow all depends on how i choose to mould it. Of course ill try to allow as much room as possible for electronics without the walls being too thin.

Thanks!

Ok bit more work done today.

First up some photos of the viewer body ready for moulding. I added a small angled plate where the jack plug goes so itll sit straight against the main body.

I also worked more on the trigger. This had to be scratch built as the trigger that came with my drill was the smaller version. Once the putty has cured itll be sanded to match the real trigger with the curves etc.

Quick shot of the scratchbuilt timer case. Made the edges a little too curved so might hold out until i can find a real one to mould up.

Few shots of the body sections and the various holes and undercuts ive filled in to make them suitable for moulding.

Popped the screen out of the viewer frame. This part will be cast in clear resin.

And then filled the inside of frame itself with resin to make moulding and casting copies easier.

Thanks for looking. More soon!

Ok not much to show today, just been pouring the silicone to mould the viewer screen frame and continuing to sand and smooth out the body parts. I did finish the mould for the screen. This part will be cast in water clear resin. Slightly more exciting photos soon.

Also finished the handle portion of the body. Will start the 2 part mould for it tomorrow.

Tomorrow ill try a cast of the screen using the clear resin and get the viewer body and handle moulds started. Comments welcome :)

Thanks :)

Few more steps taken today.

Got my mits on a real timer case so moulded that up and pulled a cast.
Image

Then i made the clay layup for the handle (which is blue as that was the only gloss paint i had to hand).
Image

And then i poured the silicone for the handle, viewer body and new shutter release.

One last photo before bed. I baked the screen mould to remove all moisture so the clear resin will cure alot better.

With every part you pull, I get a flashback to my global-uplink tracker. It's amazing how much detail you get compared to him.

Cheers Si, sorry for the flashbacks ;)
