The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As the the title says it, i have started and kinda almost finished my Service Charlies. i had started with a USMC C's shirt and bought a spare to make the SA pockets. Modded the collar and also made the name tapes. The build was done by me and the wife as she had let me use her Sewing machine at home to finish it last night. the Pckets are scratch built and sewn on be me and the collar mod was me also. all the patches were sewn on by the Wife and i made the Name Tapes at work, so nice having access to a embrodery machine. what i still need is the cover which im not sure which i want to do the one Gorman uses since i found a site but not sure if i want to spend the cash on that or the simple Garrison. Also need to get the correct Belt.

Nice job on the pockets! Coincidentally, I'm working on a project just like this, but mine's still WIP.

Like you, I got a matching USMC Service blouse (XL) by the same maker for the needed material, and drew up a pattern after intently studying some enlarged pics I took off the TV in Blu-ray. I had to guesstimate the angles on the pocket flaps, and I noticed that the bottom corners of the pockets are also angled.

I can draw well enough, but can't sew worth beans! LOL So I'm having a local professional do the job for me. They did the mandarin collar mod for me a couple of years ago and it came out perfect.

Anyway, great to see another successful project like this come together, and thanks for posting the pics! 8)

Cant wait to see yours Mudshark. yeah i never new how to sew until about 2 weeks ago when i asked someone to show me and then just started to screw around and just practiced till i was feeling like i could do it.Also when i went to the Surplus store the other day i grabbed a Garrison Cap for now so i have something to use as a cover. now to score the belt.

Cosmo,

One thing I wanted to ask you is what you did about the pocket buttons? Several ways to go with that... use covered button option, velcro tabs, snaps, or just go without.

I'm thinking of just adding small snaps (like on 1:6 scale figure clothing) that can be painted to match shirt fabric. That way the flap will lay flat and still be fastened. Covered buttons or velcro would be more secure, but I don't think they're really necessary. Curious to know what you used on your pockets, anyway.

Btw, I finally finished drawing final patterns for pocket mods and will be taking it to have the sewing done this weekend. I was thinking of sharing the measurements / patterns if anyone else wants to upgrade their Service C's closer to SA. May post a new thread with pics & info when mine is finished... if it all goes according to plan.

PS - I'd like to find a SA basket weave belt too. If you have any links you could share it would be much appreciated! :)

here you got Mudshark a close up of the pocked down and the back side. what i did was sew a button hole on the backside of the fabric and then sewed it shut. hope this helps.

Well after sitting on the shirt for a while i have finished the whole build more or less. i want to add my Drop Ribbons and a few other things but thats later and is not a super need as of now. but i had to mod the belt loops for the belt to fit in and a few other mods like the pockets and the collar. i may have the shirt taken in to a Pro and have them do the collar correct but not sure yet.

You've made an error in the placement of your cap badge... The "planet" should be perfectly level at the bottom.
