ok , i know over the years many garage kits of the Pulse rifle has been made , some really bad :( but now we have a choice of a couple of really good ones very close to SA .

So the question is has any one done a really close SA of the flameunit , i know several kits have came out over the years and these kits tend to have bits missing ( NO fuel bottle , no shroud ) or non accurate parts

i have own two kit versions of the Flameunit but these have had there faults (poor casting or major parts vac formed ) .... had to buy the shroud , and build the fuel bottle

so is there out there a complete flameunit kit with all the bells and whistles ? that will not break the bank .. or will it be easier to build my own ?

Best looking flame unit I have ever seen by far is Morgan13's on the rpf. Beautiful, but not real cheap I hear (I never personal inquired). Only thing I have to question for accuracy is a tiny part of an M16 'forward assist' seems to have been stylized/idealized on it into something that looks cooler and less obvious as part of an m16.

Stunning flame unit though. Very impressive.

The Morgan13 kit was very good, well made and cast parts and Shawn was great to deal with. No idea if he still makes them though.

Pics of my old one I bought and painted:

Another +1 on the Morgan13 Flamer. He did an updated version and a new run last year. Don't know if he's still making them. Look around on theRPF. It is a beautiful piece. Shawn's castings are the most impressive I have ever seen.

Did they actually have a functioning flame thrower in the movie in this style?

Shawn has just redone a new one. I saw it on RPF, Glenn. I'm tempted. :)

Yep, there's an extra on the DVD/Blu-ray showing Sig with one, plus 'field testing' of it.
I'm not sure whether it had an external fuel source or it actually used the tank/bottle though.

Further- JC's flamethrowers are 'military spec' rather than 'movie spec'- Most movie flamethrowers are just big gas burners shooting a flame. JC built the Aliens flame units to squirt a jet of liquid fuel that's ignited, meaning the fuel sticks to the target, as per real flamethrowers.

Most movie goers won't even notice the difference ;)

I believe I read in Morgan13s rpf post than that knob in the back of the flame thrower is actually an industrial 'quick connect' for a hose. He tracked it down to cast it. So just me putting two and two together, but I believe that was part of the supply line of the combustible liquid for the 'action' shots.

It makes sense to me as it would be safer for the talent to just hold/aim a glorified 'nozzle' of the flame spitting device vs. carrying around compressed flammable liquids in a scratch built unit.

Pretty sure that part was 100% scratch built. I've never so much as heard a speculative comment for what else it could be from. But we are still learning new things every day! If the above theory is true, it would certainly be a simple functioning squeeze-lever that opens and closes a fuel valve. Any devices or tools use a that type of hand operated system?

Ok will put my hands here guys , a while back i scratch built a flame unit , it was not 100 % and for a while i have been thinking of dusting it off and rebuilding it to make it as close as i could to SA .. i even managed to track down some quick connects for the end ... was kicking around the idea if i could get it finished and make a good job of it ... maybe do some casts and seeing if anyone wanted one as a kit ,

If I had any money I'd certainly be up for a UK based one, but I don't!

How much are Shawn's flame units? Might be tempted to get one whilst I get a hero PR together...

We kind of had to choose at one point between finishing the Flamer or casting the Motion Tracker. And in a perfect storm of luck we managed to get all the original parts in one place at one time, so I decided to get the Tracker done first.

Then we got lazy and did the Headsets next because they were easier and I got lucky enough to get 2 sets of real Racal's in hand at once.

Now that those are wrapped up, we can focus on the Flame Unit. I hope to have the prototype with me at DragonCon, if not earlier. If the stars align, I should have kits ready to ship before that.
