The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ridley announced way back when that the script for Prometheus got so big that he had to break it up into 3 or 4 films. So expect a few more sequels to be announced!

Sorry if this is old news, but I did hear a quote from Ridley Scott when asked about a sequal back before Prometheus was actually released that went something like (paraphrasing) "If we are fortunate enough to have a sequal, the story will actually move further away from the 'alien' series and into new territory" (or something like that).

So yeah...got mixed feeling about that. Obviously my love is for the alien series, but hell, if the ideas they have are as good as it appears, bring it on.

Don't bet on it. Doesn't sound like that is the story that Ridley wants to tell.

I wouldn't call Prometheus a horror film, especially compared to Alien. It does have a couple horrific moments, but they are only a small part of what the film has to offer. I'd check it out on DVD where you can have your finger on the "fast forward" button instead of the theatre where you're kinda stuck for the duration.

Its not a suprise considering Ridleys comments and the obviuos franchise ending.

Would prefer to see Gigers Aleins too, but done properly rather than the AVP franchise. Isn,t franchise a horrible word...just sucks the life out of everything.

I guess I would see the next Prometheus...but with an empty heart.

Considering the religious themes....I thought Prometheus was souless.

Heres a bet.....the DVD release ( in october ) will not feature the extra 20 or so minutes cut during editing to reduce the running length. That 20 mins will be kept for another cynical "Directors Cut" release at a later date, nearer to the release of Prometheus 2. If this is the case then it really is a cynical exercise in sucking in as much money as possible. I know movies are made as a bottom line to make money....but these days the whole packaging of the movie is just empty commercialism. Humans have evolved to a level where leveraging the oppurtunities afforded through the commercial release of a blockbuster franchise, are of paramount inportance. (Thats the kind of BS corporate speak I hate )

I.e bleed the customers dry and take the absolute P*SS whenever you can.

Recently it's been a case that the dvd only version is the theatrical cut and the blu-ray/double/triple plays have both theatrical and special editions to encourage the adoption of blu-ray.
So i'd see them both being released at the same time.

As to whether there will be a special boxed set....who knows?

Long as whichever HD 3-D über-fancy Blu-Ray player I eventually end up buying will still play old style DVDs (ie the myriad stuff that won't ever get a Blu-Ray release), I'll be happy.

I'd still not consider any of the Alien films to be actual Horror.
At most, I'd say Sci-Fi Thriller, with some Action and Horror elements. I too quite dislike horror films and get bored of them very quickly.

The 'horrific' moments, made me laugh (of course as a teen, I laughed at the 'chest burster' scene in the original Alien

I don't watch too much horror, because it simply does not scare me

It seemed obvious in Prometheus that he intended to tell the story over 3 films, so I'm glad that's getting to come to fruition. I hate that, "I'll tell you the rest of the story later..." crap when later never comes.

The difference is that the directors cut added insight, as the theatrical release already stood on its own two feet and made sense. The problem with Prometheus is that we need the extra 20 odd minutes to make sense of the movie which was all over the shop. So to keep those minutes back for the directors cut is taking the proverbial.

Why not make a movie that makes no sense at all, and then charge people loads of money to have to buy another version that makes sense....oh no wait, thats exactly what Ridley is doing

Fancy 3D blu ray players play DVDs just fine. I have one myself. 8)

Prometheus was definitely not a Horror movie. Pretty much straight science fiction, in my opinion.

I blame David Lindelof for that. Guy's a 1 trick pony and not a very good writer, but he's one of the "hot properties" in Hollyweird right now. He's been brought in to rewrite the 3rd Act for World War Z, thus pounding the final nail in the coffin for that movie. "Gee guys, lets get someone who has a proven track record of not being able to write an ending to rewrite the ending of our movie."

I couldn't agree more DBoz. Lindelof jokes about how much people hate him, but it's not like he's doing anything to improve his reputation.
As for WWZ, I don't know, maybe they could read the book to figure out the ending. I swear to God no one working on that project since Joe "Babylon 5" Straczynski left has even bothered to crack the spine on the original book. Why pay for a book and then change (almost) every plot point? Grumble grumble grumble...

Wish I could have the memory of prometheus wiped from my brain. Terrible film. The thought of a sequel does nothing for me.
