The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm going to be painting the camouflage patterns on my armor in near future. I'm going for a SA look and need some help identifying / confirming which shades of green were used on SU armor, specifically the Humbrol matt enamel color numbers.

I believe I already have all the Humbrol enamel colors required for the basic camouflage patterns, but after carefully examining every pic of SU armor I could possibly find, it appears there are two shades of green used: 30 - Matt Dark Green, and another that I'm not sure about, but it's either a lighter or darker shade of green...

Colors I currently have for camo pattern:

30 Matt Dark Green
63 Matt Sand
76 Matt Uniform Green? (not sure if this is correct)
96 Matt Chocolate
147 Matt Light Grey

If anyone can confirm the exact color number of the other SU color for me it would be most helpful. Thanks in advance!

You need a dark green to replace what was originally thought of as black. I used Tamiya Black Green XF-27 which I believe is Humbrol 91.

So, from darkest to lightest:
91 Black Green
30 Dark Green (this is the base colour that everything else gets painted onto)
96 Chocolate
63 Sand
147 Light Grey

The base colour (Humbrol 30) may be Hammerite Dark Green, its the same colour and sticks to metal better.*

*No proof, just seen it next to Humbrol 30 and its only subtly different.

As Mole states..

It's odd, because having seen a screen used set in the flesh, the lighter of the two greens looks remarkably close to Humbrol 80 (possibly typo in translation??).

And the Matt Sand does seem very orange, where the one that I saw was definitely a paler, bleached colour.

Also, the grey, is almost white, so maybe a couple of shades darker.

The latter lot, are all my opinion of course, and I'm only going from what my eye saw.
When you look at the pictures of the screen used stuff on here, you can see a million different shades, and can make a million different choices.

In the end, stick to what everyone else is using is what I say.

Thanks for all the input, very helpful indeed. Color shades do vary from one pic to the next, which is why I've spent much time carefully examining and comparing as many as I could find. I wish I could eyeball a SU set of armor in person. That would probably be all I'd need to find and/or mix the shade I'm looking for.

So with Humbrol 30 being the lighter green base, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a darker shade that looks close enough to SU for my purposes. I always work from the lightest to darkest color, and the entire armor is going to be weathered with MIG pigments afterwards, which should tone down the lightest colors sufficiently... I hope!

Guess the best thing to do then is a color test before actually painting the darkest shade of green. Again, thanks to all for the very helpful info and suggestions! :D

If it's any help, this Pic from my build shows screen used against mine which used the above humbrol colours. That is pre weathering of course no idea what weathering the SU had. Still not the right shades though, but lighting could effect that.

Note: I used black not dark green

Yeah, using (91) Black Green for the darker green is pretty much spot on in terms of screen accuracy.

The lighter green, well... everyone uses 30, but like I said, 80 might be a little closer. But use 30....

That Wierzbowski picture is probably (in my opinion) one of the best pictures for getting a 'real life' version of what the paint actually looks like in the flesh.
Using screen caps, make them all look much much darker, and the ones with the hippy wearing the armour make them look much more washed out and grey.

Admittedly, the pictures above looked a damned sight more vibrant than the Screen built TE set (not a subsequent replica).... So again it's all a bit subjective.

Listen to those in the know, and don't take opinion at anything more than face value.

Thanks again for the added pics and info. That shot of 'Ski's armor is one of the best and is my favorite in terms of showing the colors most naturally. Not sure if I have 80, but do have a few tins of 30 in hand. I'll most likely try to match the dark green shade on 'Ski's armor. If I can't find it then I'll just mix it myself.
