The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So, as I was inspired by the awesome work that retrogarde did on his own armor, I made a go at it myself for my wife's armor. These first few pics where just as we where trying to finish up the armor...in general...so still more work to be done, but, I did want to see how it reads on film, and get you guy's thoughts on it. I am thinking that the pink shoe laces she happened to be wearing that day really sale the armor. Lol Anyway, more pics as there are more to show off. For now, enjoy...

Great job man! My only concern is that it looks like you've riveted the shoulder piece directly to the back plate. This may cause a lot of stress on that spot. If you could drill that out and instead rivet the shoulder piece to a length of elastic, cut a slot in the back plate, feed the elastic through and then rivet it on the inside of the back plate further down it would allow for a lot more freedom of motion and reduce the strain on the plastic.

All in all though I think this looks great! Yay for wives who want armour!

retrogarde - Yea that is exactly what I did actually. However, rather than use rivets, I decided to use chicago screws, which can easily be removed so I think I will take your advice and change that over. Good call and thanx for the feedback. Still a ways to go before I would consider this armor finished, so still time to make those sorts of changes..

I'm in the process of trimming the backs on my shoulder armour as mine were the USCM equivalent of bellbottoms! I'm making a shoulder lamp and it just wasn't going to fit unless I did something drastic... My point is that you did a really nice job there getting the shape correct. I'm guessing the recent posting of continuity photos from Magnus, Bigbisont and Willie Goldman has helped considerably in getting the details right.

Good eye Retro.

My armour split there too when it was riveted directly.

bigbisont , yea retrogarde's thread on his armor really DID help tremendously, so check that out if you have not seen it and are going to make a build. This one here, have not had the time to post any "construction pics" just yet, but we will try to get to that. Retro, thanks man, like I said, I credit you for the inspiration. I actually pulled shaping references from many a source. SFC, yup, you're a Marine. lol Thanks.

OK, so now I will get her to join to join the forum herself when she gets back from her trip.

Better pics are also on teh way of her in the full gear once we have it all ready. Gonna take her out intot he woods and give her a "I've been in combat for a minute" look to if I can for those pics. Should be fun.

Are the shoulder bells a bit far forward? It might just be me, but it looks a bit like that they are not quite centered to the collar and should be moved back a bit. Of course, that might be because of how she was standing.

They might be actually. It could be the cut or positioning of the paldrons making them appear that way as well, not totally sure off the top of my head.

How did you fasten them? If you used elastic, could just be that the fronts are tighter than the rear...

UPDATED!!! I used an old school military LBE shoulder strap set up rather than just straps, after I noticed the shape looked like an LBE turned upside down. I did that because I thought the "added texture would be cool looking. The bottom of the LBE is cut off and I used a 2 inch Velcro strap to secure that around the utility belt. At the top, the buckles themselves do not go over the shoulder underneath the paldron, but just attach at the front tip of the paldron and then that attaches to the LBE. What i also failed to do with the LBE was extend it enough for the thin side to show prominently, but that can be adjusted later. Hope I am answering the question here. heh

SGT Kitten, Honestly, the shoulder bells are likely attached in a pretty clumsy manner, but am not sure how to fix that yet. Right now, they are attached with a single cicago screw, so they are subject to swinging forward and backwards sadly, which is why they look forward I believe. I might try to ad an additional chicago screw but still not sure that will fix it.

I also changed out how the paldrons where attached today actually, so they now have the elastic rather than a direct connect. I also added pads to the knee armor, which is my least favorite part of this build actually. I also trimmed about a inch and a half off of the calf armor, as she was having trouble there to in the fitting.
