| Post subject: | Correct USCM insignia, positioning etc |
Dear All, So... I need a full set of insignia for the BDUs soon to be on order... Assuming I have long sleeved BDUs or I shorten them post purchase, what do I need to obtain and who does the correct versions? My first BDU blouse is going to be named to me as a USS SULACO Marine... So I need an oversized US flag, yes? I've contacted Aaron about those already... left upper arm? I need a USCM Eagle badge... Where can I obtain a correct one and is that right upper arm? Then a USS SULACO badge... Left BDU BLOUSE chest pocket? Am I also supposed to have the USCM delta badge somewhere? Also, name tapes... My surname MARSHALL above my right BDU blouse chest pocket... Is it just USCM above the left pocket...? Who can run me up a set of these please? I'll just be a lowly private so no rank badges for me... Although if I was PFC, is that a single stripe? I'd prefer none... As always, my Aliens-perverted sponge of a mind is eternally grateful to soak up as much learning and knowledge as possible. I want to get this right... spot on... first time... Could someone in the know also please point me in the direction of the correct requirements for UKCM badges? Much love... 2-1-6 |

Here you go! viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12753 Apone and Hicks had the Delta instead of a ship patch and rummer on their pockets, possibly Dietrich would have too as they were the only officers. A Lowly Private has no stripe, PFC has one stripe (as seen on Hudson). |

Name tapes can be ordered from camotech.com, excellent service! I think you can order the other patches from Patches n' Pins here: http://patchesnpins.com/aliens%20page.htm Hicks and possibly Dietrich (also Apone?) wore the black, red and white Delta on their left chest pocket, but everyone else wore the Sulaco patch and US Colonial Marines rocker under it. Hope that helps! Haha ninja'd! |

I can recommend some stateside providers, but you would probably have better luck with the patches asking the UK people. I'll still recommend patchesnpins.com as they have always done right by me. (I don't know if the ones over here will ship to the UK or not). I believe that most everyone uses camotech embroidery (http://www.camotech.com) for the nametapes. If you email her and tell you want the USCM stuff, she knows what you are talking about. I've heard of a few problems with the post over to the UK (mainly a bit of a wait time). EDIT: Moosh beat me to it, but I'm posting anyway! Charlie |

I got my patches from "Patches and Pins" too. Their postage to the UK was very quick. I ordered my tapes from Camotech over 3 weeks ago but haven't had an invoice for them yet. Not really bothered though as I ordered a few different ones and I know i'll get them eventually. Plus it helps that I'd ordered a set of 'generic' name tapes from Patches and Pins just in case. |

Some of us have the Sulaco/other ship patch with associated rocker on the left pocket and the delta on the right pocket, but the choice is yours. I have the UK delta on my UKCM BDUs, but on my USCM ones I've stayed screen accurate, along with nametapes written in marker pen: ![]() In the link given by retrogarde and my pic above, note the position of the patches on the arms in relation to the pockets. |

That blouse looks awesome... So the screen accurate ones were written in marker pen? I'd imagine free handing that might be a bit of a fine art... I presume there is a specific font... And where would I get the tape? |

Apone and Hudson wear black ones with the plastic snap closures in the back and the ship patch on the front. Luckily that style has become "cool" again thanks to the hipsters so you should be able to find one. Spunkmeyer wears a CAT cap, but i can't remember what kind of closure it has. |

Fonts from member Mike Rush here: http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1029 ... index.html I printed the name and USCM on paper, then copied each letter, starting with water soluble pen (kids pens), doing each letter in short sections of straight lines to get the size and spacing right. I used some OD webbing, but you have to be careful to get a lighter OD than some man-made fibre webbings come in. |

Looks good! I'd that British 58 pattern strap or thinner? |

Dunno, never seen 58, it's just some webbing I got, can't remember where/who from, but I think it's cotton or similar, as it frays like denim. |

To be 'screen accurate' the patches should be printed not embroidered |

I think the phrase rhymes with clucking bell. I've just ordered all the embroidered stuff... Oh well... Does anyone do printed ones? |

I think a forum member or two have done limited runs done over the years, but not for a while. Don't fret about being entirely, perfectly screen accurate, we're not that sort of group to get all arsey about it. |
