Dear All,

The underslung G/L...

Am I right in thinking the total magazine capacity is three 40mm grenades in the tube with the possibility of one in the chamber?

Just a bit of useless trivia I suppose...

Regards,

2-1-6

First off- it's a 30mm not a 40mm.

Judging by Vazquez's example, I'd say your capacity was correct...it'd also be about right for the cut-down M870 used as the basis of the launcher too.

Doesn't Ripperley also load 3 rounds into the PR in the lift?

Oops - yes, sorry - 30mm - Typed that after a 15 and 1/2 hour shift...

It would seem to be the case that its three in the tube and one hot to go... And although its obviously not a function of the replica or screen used hero PRs, a PR safety catch could presumably cover both parts of the weapon - I.e. the 10mm pulse rifle itself and whatever is underslung... Either that or it could have its own separate safety as we'd have on current day weapons systems in over/under arrangements today... That little trigger would still be liable to a sling snag or such the like if something got in the gap between the shroud and the PR mag housing and BOOOOM...

Seems to me that standard load out for grenades (of assorted types) would be a loaded weapon of 3/4 and 4 grenades on each side of the webbing... Or whatever comes on any particular marine load out...

Regards,

2-1-6

1, 2, Some, More, Many, Lots, All Of Them.
As I recall, trolls have eight digits but only manage to use seven of them when counting! ;)

One thing that puzzled me, though maybe just being dense, is why does Hicks refer to it as an "over-and-under" grenade launcher?

I always assumed it was a bit of a misplaced modifier. The over was the 10mm rifle, the under was the grenade launcher. Perhaps a misplaced comma/pause in the line of describing the over-under dual nature of the weapon?

I just thought and over/under configuration was what a hybrid weapon like an M16 with an M203 40mm G/L was referred to (and other variants and similar weapons systems since)...

It would have perhaps been better if he'd said "...This is the M41A 10mm Pulse Rifle... with under slung pump action (racks it - click/clack) 30mm grenade launcher... Here... Feel the weight..."

I know what you mean... The over and under bit could be misconstrued to mean that somehow there are elements to the GL above and below the 10mm PR barrel but I never interpreted it that way...

When Hicks says it has "over and under 30mm grenade launchers." While he says this, he points to the barrel of the 30mm launcher, and to the end of the magazine tube (both on the front end of the grenade launcher). I think it's a simple matter of Michael Beihn was an actor, not a gun fan. It would be easy to mistake them both for "barrels" if you don't know the difference.

I thought Hicks was pointing to the barrels of the Thompson and the SPAS, even if he can't easily reach them accurately from that position.

I'd also take 'Over-and-under' to mean the barrels' configuration, as normal modern shotguns typically come in 'over-and-under', 'side-by-side' and 'single' barrel configurations.

Either way, it makes far more sense than Mel Gibson's description of an SMG having "Twin Carbies" in Lethal Weapon 3... Twin carbines? Twin carburettors? WTF??!!

OK as I got a airsoft PR with a real S.P.A.S cage and Maruzen M870 that the shell are shorter you can only fit 2 in the tube and one in the chamber.

Remember that the spring and pusher are inside the reloading tube that takes up space too!!!

You beat me to it. My Tanio Koba 870 only fits a maximum
2 in the tube and one in the pipe.
