The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well it's been about four years now, been busy with deployments and home life. A lot has changed as far as electronics and whatnot for the flying, but I have resumed my attempts to make this project a reality.

In the meantime here are some pictures of the parts that I have 3d printed and made for the project just to see how everything would ultimately fit together.

*Added an image of what I have in Autodesk so far about 50+ pieces, I didn't really design these to be printed on a FDM printer so after making them on on my Makergear M2 it's taken a lot of sanding to get it somewhat presentable.*

A few more updates.

So as I said these parts were not really meant to be printed with the FDM, just a test how everything was working I scaled down the parts from what I actually intend to make them. Took a lot of sanding and filler just to get them together and looking okish.

At some point I do intend on making a much more printer friendly version for anyone who is interested.

Throwing some paint on just to see how it's looking.

And some more pictures.

So it's taken a lot of trial and error, well more error than trial so far, but I am hoping to make some progress on the flying parts. At the moment I am trying to get these 40mm EDFs to work, my hope is that they will and I can scale the overall model down by about 20%. Should that not work out I'll probably end up going with larger 50mm versions.

I have had success in making the 50mm version fly without any parts around them so technically speaking the power plant issues are sound. Anyhow, I will be attempting to dial in the 40mm test build pictured in the next couple days, hopefully it all works out. Currently need to add a rudder for yaw, design and build servo mount for rudder, mount the flight control board, and add some basic landing gear.

Last one my ass Spunkmeyer.

Short video of today's test flight.

Busy weekend with family got around to doing a couple short tests. I'm definitely going to need to be doing some tuning, but at least it's flying.

And managed to get a second flight test in. Still pretty touchy but at least I have a jumping off point. What I really need to do is mock up the front and rear covers to see how much performance I lose with them on.

Sorry these are so loud and not very well framed.
