Hi folks , as some may know I have been also involved in studio scaling for a while over at the RPF. Searching through the web I found a picture of the Jordan tractor , I believe this was used in the aliens movie as the "family vehicle" In LV 426. Now I am not stating anything here and by far not stating a claim of doing any sort of kit ATM, But I would like to know if there is any info on the actual base kit that was used to make that? Caterpillar has a Jordan tractor but its not quite it. Any info sharing here could very well lead into some tremendous kit building ..... That is how it's done. I only Have one picture which I have a few guys looking at it to see if they can identify kit donors. I haven't yet sat down and broken apart the studio scale kit. I am also unsure if this was ever touched before as I am too lazy to do a search. It's a long term thing so the more involved the better the possibilities. Thank you all for now Marcel |

Note: Newt's family name is Jorden, not Jordan. Looking on Google, lots of people spell it incorrectly, which doesn't help when searching for info. |

I have original blueprints of the Jorden tractor that were used by the model unit to make the radio-controlled miniature version and for the construction of the full-scale static version that the family are seen to use. I also have some good images of the model taken outdoors in the car park at Pinewood. As far as I know most of the model, apart from the outside dressing details (there's a gardener's seed/planting tray on the roof for example) was built from scratch. Mars if you're serious about making an accurate kit of this drop me a line, I'd be happy to share the plans with you and as always all I ask is that I be sent a kit when it's available. Harry |

Fellas, Reaper thanks anyways, Pvb amazing what one letter can do, And Harry you have way too much faith in me !!!! A kit? Well I can try if you say they were scratchbuilt.... I will pm you shortly about it. If there's is anything anyone can see that it may be a found item or a kit part please say. Even if its a similar item , it gets the mind rolling into another direction. Thank you Mars |

Ok from Harry's observation of the seed crate and those outside car park pictures, it puts the studio scale remote control at a huge 4 or 5 feet long. I don't know if there was a smaller version but this size is just too big . I can down scale it to a more "shelf" piece. |

I tried scatch building this many years ago i 2 thirds of the way through the build before giving up ( i got lazy ) plus i built the main body carved out of balsa wood , because of the odd shape , if i was to build it now i would more likely use plastic card or something like that .. |

Funny, I was considering trying to build one of these from scratch as well! There are a lot of photos of it on the Aliens DVD, and mention of the fact that it raised and lowered. The lifesize version was built in the down position, while the model was in the up position, and although we never see it lower, no one seems to complain about the difference. |

At a glance , although it may have been all scratched built I do see some resemblance to found items thrown together. There a a thousands of these toys and all in large scales , but I just copied this to inspire some of you to look further. http://www.vectis.co.uk/Page/ViewLot.as ... ction=2065 Looks like a dump truck rear bucket upside down for the upper section. Even if we do a smaller scale its good to see what the real items would of looked like. |

Harry: I just noticed that my amazing factoid about the tractor was already documented on your site. Also, I'd never noticed the planting tray before, and now that's all I can see! Kinda like the ice cube tray on the MT in Alien... |

A 1/35 scale tractor is already in the works. SRS Prototyping is doing it. He should have it done by the summer. george |

I would have been happy to help them out had I known, but I guess as they've already started its too late to make changes now. Harry |

timeslip wrote: Right on accurate. George Going by the scale you posted (1/35) and guessing that the cab is about six feet tall in the 1/1 tractor (about the same size as the wheels), the model would likely be about six inches tall:
