The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm getting ready to stencil my name on my helmet, and I'm seeing that part of my name is going over a few black splotches in the camo pattern.

So I'm wondering, if I do this and the black merge together, making it difficult to discern one or more letters, what should I do?

A) Leave it
B) outline the effected letters in green
C) outline the effected letters in white

Can you creatively blend a new color into those spots prior to stensiling? The ghost gray color in particular should minimize the risk of new paint not matching old paint as grays are pretty bland and should be easier to match.

Or... you could "dust" the helmet in green to gently lighten the black areas and kind of fade it. Then when you do the black stensil in new sharp black, it will stand out.

I like the "dusting" suggestion. I actually did that with my chest armour to fade the colours (a light mist of OD green, when usually everyone uses some form of blackwash).

The real trouble is that the "black" camo on your helmet should not have been black, but rather a very dark green.

With the dark green this is how your armour stencil should look.

Maybe you could go over the black camo splotches with dark green?

You could also try stencilling your name using Black Gloss paint? I am assuming of course that you've used a matt black for the camo?

Yes, I'm using a flat black for the name. Kevin, I did use a very dark green...not black, in the camo. I should have said that. I went ahead and stenciled my name on before I checked this thread, you can barely make out the letters that go over dark green areas.

Aaargh, now what do I do. Maybe I'll outline the effected letters with a dark gray.

The outline should work....you could kind of do a drop shadow effect.

That's kinda what I was thinking.

OR I could go over the name with gloss...might have the same effect as on the Crowe armor Kevin posted.
