Was thinking of welding the SPAS to the spacer and that to the Thompson for extra strength. What is the SPAS made from? Any assistance much appreciated. |

ABS of some variety- Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. Unless it's a real cage, then I think they were aluminium alloy ![]() |

Obviously, they are made of WIN!! ![]() Also, I have it on good authority that they are stamped steel, coated with a charcoal grey phosphate factory finish. Exactly what type/grade/composition/flavour of steel, I couldn't say. |

Exactly what type/grade/composition/flavour of steel, I couldn't say. Been such a long time since I handled a real SPAS I'll bow down to your knowledge- They were never that popular with the shotgun crowd in the UK due to cost, limitiation of 2 3/4" shells only, front heavy balance and the highly comedic (for everyone else on the range, not you) ability to jam the action halfway between 'pump' and 'auto' resulting in a complete nightmare of a stoppage....The rather less comedic problem with the flag-type safety also mitigated against them- once worn, putting the safety on fired the gun without you touching the trigger. Not a feature that inspired sales. The only time I got to use one I recall giggling like a girl and then handing it back to the owner. ![]() |

Haha! And there we all were thinking you knew... ![]() It might be a good idea to ask anyone for the piece they cut out for the ejection port, then you can test your weld without ruining £200. |

I do not own a SPAS, being illegal in my state, however I do own four Franchi SAS shotguns, and a slew of SPAS parts. I just confirmed, by part in hand, that the "cage" is made of stamped steel, as it does attract a magnet. |
