Hey all :)

I am in the process of building my very own M56, based on a real MG42/53 :)
I already have most of the parts BUT am still looking for the correct rear grip "trigger" assembly.

What kind of brake/ clutch lever combo did you guys use for this?
Can´t find any with the correct mount.

Would appreciate some help from you experts, eventually some pics of your own builds!

many thanks in advance, Markus :)

Ran into afew problems when I tried to trim the struts and the MG 42 grip and can not figure out the correct setup of some areas :/

Thanks in advance, Markus

Osmotic built one from a de-ac, so he might be able to assist with specific queries...

IIRC, all parts were from a Kwak AR125LC.
However, parts are harder to come by now and somewhat sought after by those who actually own these bikes, as they're becoming collectors' vehicles now. A good nick one will fetch £3-4,000.

Might be worth replicating, especially if someone has a 3D printer.

I seem to recall (From my days of falling off motorbikes in my youth) that the AR125 grip switchgear unit is common to the small Kwackers of the period so:
KMX125, KLR125, KMX200, KLR250, AR50, AR75, KE100 should all do the job as near as dammit.

There will be year-to-year differences, I'm sure- but very small variations at most.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Just to be clear, I am talking about the "trigger-assembly" as you might call it, not the switchgear on the front handle of the M56!
I spent quite a time googling for the brake levers, but still couldn´t find the correct model :(

I don't believe that anyone has yet identified the exact handle used. Many of the Kawasaki handles have the same bend and knob on the end. I found that the smaller model have smaller handels. I'm pretty sure other makes would do the job too.

When i built mine I just took the picture to a local dealer and went through all the handles he had on the screen until I found the best match. (can't for the life of me remember which one it ended up)

Hmmm...too bad the correct one never has been identified :(

I found quite a few similar ones, but all differ in details.
In addition to that, most of the newer models with the correct "clamp", mounted with two screws from the top, have an absolutely wrong lever. This either has the addtl. profile for better grip OR is slightly bent sideways instead of being straight.

One more question if you don´t mind...

The L-shaped front handle-bar that the switchgear is mounted to, what are you guys using?
I bought a resin copy from Matsuo but this wouldn´t withstand the stress of it being mounted to my REAL MG42 (too heavy).
Anybody offering a steel version of this???

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions :)

Yeah there's quite a few that are close but not spot on. I do wonder if they used the handle off one model and the mounting assembly off another.

As regards the front mounting I used a real bike handlebar welded to a custom metal upright with the four stabilising fins. That in-turn was bolted from below through the barrel shroud.

Might be worth searching for after-market levers, I remember from my biking days that there was a hat full of various different levers available for the bikes I had, different in length and the shape of the lever. You might find some luck there.

Quick edit - from Kev's picture above you can see that the lever is quite short, so you'd only get a couple of fingers around the lever whilst using it (on a bike.) Pretty much all the bikes I've owner, the standard fit levers have been long enough to get all 4 fingers around with the bobble on the end extending as far as, or just beyond the end of the grip. That makes me think they could *possibly* be aftermarket, or you might find similar looking in that direction.

I used a KMX125 bracket and I think a GPZ750 lever. The lever was too long so I cut it down and grafted the ball back on. Makes me wonder now if this part is off a kids motorbike as that SU lever is real short.

I used plumbing parts for the front grip. About halfway down: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5658&hilit=frederica&start=50

Or just a 'performance' clutch lever, which are often short like this for use with two/three fingers.
The likelihood of being an aftermarket part is fairly high as well.

Have you thought about BMX/Pushbike brake levers/brackets ?

Yes, the lever itself being very short compared to the standard motorcycle clutch/ brake/ gas-levers is something I realized as well.

Hmmm...so many directions to search

Made some progress with my build...

Added the struts and front handle as well as the "infrared" sight.
Found that the internal threading on Matts wonderful alu-reinforced resin muzzle is somewhat messed up...will try to recut it OR have a new -metal- muzzle machined.

WIP pic(s) to follow :)

Also did some reasearch for the rear handle/ lever and found the following website, specialised in Kawasaki replacement parts. Seems we can exclude the AR125 from being the source of the rear handle (and the GPZ being it either) :/

Kawasaki's KX65 kids bike clutch lever is close, similar dual bolt clamp style and short(?) lever.
