Post subject:  Hello all. My build so far . . .

Hi all. Newbie here . . .

To cut a very long story short i'm putting together a USMC impression, primarily for airsoft use (and the occasional fancy dress). I'm not new to costuming and am an active member of the UKG. Normally i would work towards their clearance standards so i could 'troop' in it. However standards require screen-accurate camo (which is fair enough) and until a more affordable source becomes available i won't be going down that path.

I'm basically not in a position to spend £1000+ on a costume so am looking to do it on a bit more of a budget. However im still confident that i can get a good impression.

So here's what we've got so far -

Now firstly as you can see it's a work-in-progress. Things still to do/get -

- Jungle boots
- The ab-pad (is currently being constructed)
- Camo
- Correct belt / pouches
- Helmet (is currently being constructed)
- Shoulder-lamp (currently being researched)
- Pistol / Holster
- Grenades / loops (on order)

The armour is made by a friend down here in Cornwall from 3mm HIPS, he's a lot better at stuff like that than me ! However i trimmed, painted and strapped it. I still need to add the brackets to the back of the armour and add the leather neck-line. The paint-job is my own. Please ignore the OD BDU's/patches. It's my skirmish gear. Rifle is the 'snow wolf' airsoft version, repainted, rewired with mosfet, fitted with new spring, hop rubber and internal 11.1v lipo (shoots amazingly well i might add).

My question was mainly around the pouches on the belt. I know these seem to be added ad-hoc on some characters in the film. However do we know what type of pouches were actually used ? Was it US ALICE gear ? Also with regards to the camo; I'm tossing up between Polish desert or Italian vegetato desert. Is there a general preference ?

Anyhow if anybodies got any constructive criticism i'm all for it

Cheers for now
P

Not sure what the rules are regarding naming armour makers etc ? PM me for details

Hey Prophet. Welcome to AL. No problems naming makers publicly. There are rules against selling only.

Oh, but be careful with USCM/USMC ... not as naughty as not capitalising "Marine" though! ;)

For the BDUs polish desert would be the better of the 2 options you proposed

Welcome to AL.

Looking good. Now join the ready line. :delta: :)
If you don't want to go for a BDU from Aaron, Spat or MAA (2nd hand) then PL dessert is a good choice.

BTW: Spat and Noble offer some of the parts you are looking for.

The Aliens Legacy doesn't have costuming clearance standards, so don't fret about being screen accurate as a Colonial Marine.

Regarding the belt, the one in your pics looks okay, but there are others which look closer to screen accurate, like this one, which is similar to those supplied by Spat with his armour:

The pouches used in the film were mock ups, just cloth wrapped around blocks of foam:

Heard of Chef's biker scout armour - very well regarded!

Wouldn't mind a set of tree finding armour myself at some point!

Got the ab-pad sorted today. However looking at it i think i need to move the cod triangle up slightly as it looks and feels a little 'slack'

As always please excuse the old combats . . .

I think the plate is fine where it is, it's just the cloth part that looks much too long and saggy.

If you look at Hudson's on Harry's Aliens Archive site, you'll see how the upper plate sits halfway down, where the side corners of your long pad are:

http://www.harryharris.com/crotch1.htm

So it'll look about here on yours:

The cloth part above that upper plate is then pulled tighter (some of us use other means to hold it up, such as velcro, duct tape, braces, etc.) and it'll make the lower crotch plate much more snug. :)

Folks please remember than any discussion regarding sales of any kind must take place in the PX section only.
