Hi guys, I thought it best to ask some wiser than myself - with regards to badging on the Marine BDUs, where is the accepted location for the Ship assignment and unit labels (see links): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200578278364? ... 1439.l2649 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200889151542? ... 1439.l2649 I have the USMC logo on my left chest Secondly, any advice on where I can get hold of 3 rifle slings? Cheers!! |

The left chest most commonly has either the marine "delta" OR the ship patch. Characters from the film were split on that. There really isnt a situation you would wear both at the same time unless you go with the 'delta' on your left breast and the ship patch on a black cap/hat (ala Apone during briefing scene). So just go with what you like best. As for slings, member Noble makes the screen accurate ones (and no one else, dont believe that bum on ebay charging $50 for canteen straps and calling them 'screen accurate' slings). If Noble's are not available, the canteen straps are actually not terrible alternatives, just don't pay $50 for one. You can get them for $4-$7 quite easily, and I think our member Aaron Horrocks may actually still sell them if you wanted to stay 'in house'. |

So are the slings going to be in your thread or should I head over to RPF? nocternus wrote: There are of course UK badges and patches So I've very recently noticed - whats the general opinion on them, and can they be sourced from the forum? Don't fancy being shunned by the masses...! |

bigbisont wrote: The canteen straps are actually not terrible alternatives, just don't pay $50 for one. I deal in a lot of military surplus, so I'm a source in lots of good real-world items. The straps that you are looking for are "G.P. Straps". They were used for every piece of misc gear from canteens, medical bags, com gear, and machinegun barrel bags, just to name a few. There was a huge stock of 1950's era NOS canvas G.P. Straps, but everyone else is sold out of bulk, so what's left is ones and twos here and there. I may have a couple left in storage. These work, and are softer, but not quite "screen accurate". The nylon ones that came out in the ALICE era are much closer to the ones that were screen used, but are much harder to find since there was far fewer of these made. These are the closest "real-world" U.S. Military item that you can find. In order to know the difference, you would have had to study the photos of the original items to notice that the hooks were British, such as on M58 gear, and that the stitching was a little different. I still have some nylon ones in stock. My supplier had a fire in his storage unit, so I'm down to my last few. $5 for ones that show some smoke damage and smell like campfire, and $8 for the very nice ones. If money isn't an object, and you want a spitting image prop, then Noble has the sling for you. |

I bought one of Aaron's canvas GP straps and while it may not be screen accurate it looks and feels fantastic. It is soft enough that I don't worry about it scraping the paint of my armour which is nice too. |

So I have my staff sargent patch (in black and gold as I believe that was Apones colors) and an American flag for my left arm are there anymore patches needed? The screaming eagle was only on some in the movie so I was passing that one up. |

According to the tech manual, every USCM soldier wore one. I believe the UKCM and UACM have their own. Charlie |

Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but in the movie Hicks and Apone wore the delta patches on their left BDU pockets (Cpl Dietrich most likely did as well), while the other grunts wore the Sulaco patches. (Lt Gorman also wore the Sulaco patch on his Service uniform pocket on the visit to Ripley's apartment). Anyway, if you're going to be an NCO, then you may want to go with the delta rather than the ship's patch on your left shirt pocket, as in the film. Just a suggestion though. |

Ok so for a staff sargent should I go with the eagle patch on my right arm or the delta symbol over my left pocket? |
