The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys! Back when I painted my armor I did video with the intention of putting together a tutorial but never got around to it. I got inspired by a buddy of mine who just got armor and wants to repaint it. So I finally put together a video tutorial of how I did my paint. I really hope it will help some folks out :D

Great to see another persons version, from everyone I've spoken to it fills me with a little more confidence I'll do a good job when my armour arrives :D

Just watched the whole tutorial...bloody awesome. Couple of questions...I know you said you hadn't been able to find that discontinued black wash you used to weather the armour, but that you had found some new products. Did you get a chance to test them yet?

Lastly, how many coats of silver did you apply as a base coat, and was that over top of a primer? Did you have to lightly scratch the camo paint so you didn't go through the silver?

I was planning on doing the same thing but wasn't sure how hard it was going to be to do that.

Great tutorial... however... I've never understood the need to to scratch up armour. Natural scratches occur just from wearing it, so it gets dinged up naturally.

BTW, if you'd like to be at the front of the parade with us at DCon, bring your armour on the ready line.

.

I'd like some advice on this also- I can pick up the old Citadel/Warhammer black acrylic ink for £2.75 a pot which I figure might do the job nicely.....I guess it's going to be a case of try it on a small area and see how it works out. ;)

But there's also stuff by Testors, AK Interactive and MIG which seem aimed at scale modelling and for the most part seem to be 'semi-drying'. I'm concerned that in the rough and tumble of use, I'll end up with nasty black stains on my nice MAA fatigues if I use these.

I used the new gamesworkshop was nuln oil ( wash ) . It's a flat black wash that works very well to darken and weather. Your armors color. Check it out.

I haven't yet. However, my hubby thinks a buddy of his in Spain has found the Heavenly Hues...he ordered 4 bottles for us and is coming directly to us. IF it's the right stuff, I will let you guys know.

I put on several. I would say at least 2 good coats on top of primer. I had to do some clean up work on my armor with bondo glazing putty, then wet sand, primer, wet sand, then a couple coats of silver- that way when you do some scratches and paint peels, you don't go all the way through the silver too.

They do which is why I did very little on the chest piece, as I got a lot wearing it and my pulse rifle (all metal) at SDCC. But I wanted the rest beat up and with a similar look to Frost's. I wanted to smack someone that on my FB page asked if they could give me some advice, I needed to put some black and weathering on my armor...really? Did you watch the tutorial at all??? There is black all over LOL!

Thanks! We actually may make it to Dragon Con this year but we never go on Saturday so no parade if we do make it :( But damn I appreciate the offer!

i use Charcoal Dust for my black wash it gives it a dusty flat look like its been thru fire fights and hell pretty much. then Clear Coat it so it done rub off.
thats just my route is you dont want to use Nuln Oil.

Yeah. GW washes are basically very, very watered down acrylic paints, so it'll dry/stain well, though personally i find on big-scale props it makes more sense to just water down paint yourself. :P goes further.
