The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

If you had the choice to choose 1 more Marine to survive the initial encounter, who would it be? Stealing a line from Seinfeld, You've gotta LOVE.... The Drake. Mind you, it's a definate toss up between Frost or Drake. Frost was cool and seemed like he was pretty easy going. I hate that he was taken out by someone on his own team. Drake rocked and even though he didn't self proclaim that he was the "Ultimate Badass", I think it was well known within the squad that he was. His death was from the result of a team member aswell. I'm sure you all know the others that didn't make it. So let's hear who you wish made it.

As much as I loved Apone, it would've taken away the coolness of Corporal Hicks under pressure making the tough decisions. Apone didn't didn't actually die after the intial encounter anyways. I'm still wating for a great story where Apone leads an escape with his little buddy and Dietrich LOL.

My heart wants to say Weirzbowski (so that he might have been able to have at least ONE line!)...but my head says Frost.

Maybe I over-thought this but bear with me:

-Apone = potentially butting heads with Ripley for leadership roll. Apone would clearly command the troops but it was Ripley that actually knew how to respond. Not saying Apone would have done badly, just saying when you have two "alpha's" in the pack, it could get awkward and a leadership battle doesnt make for good team chemistry. When Gorman woke up Apone might have deferred to him again, or at least given Gorman equal say. Then you have a 3 way battle that probably ends with everyone dead.

-Drake = Surely as ass kicker, but again maybe a chemistry issue? Vaz and Drake together absent any "true" authority might free lance a bit more (as evidenced by their collusion when giving up magazines). I think the pair would naturally look to each other and be less inclined to fall in line with what Ripley had to say. Their "bad boy" club could cause a rift in the group eventually.

-Ski, Crowe, Dietrich. I love ski and Crowe (You guys know Crowe was real life SAS?), but hard to imagine them doing anything besides dying at a later battle if they had lived.

That leaves Frost. He certainly looked the part, and his wit would surely have provided some entertaining moments later on down the line. Frost would arguably have been just as good as Hicks in most regards.

Much as I miss several of them, I'm saying Ferro - Because having already once had to deal with Xenos sneaking aboard ship (and subsequently survived), she'd have INSISTED on sweeping the whole Sulaco many times for bugs. This means we'd not have had the rather cursory disposal of Hicks and Newt in Alien 3 and (assuming the Dropship crash never happened) resulted in Hudson, Vasquez and Gorman making it back. Granted Burke would have made it too, but I assume something else would have happened and they'd have kicked him out the airlock for it.

Without the crash, we'd also still have Hadley's Hope to return to and Alien 3 could have been more about a full-scale USCM assault.

Which some people, like myself actually thought was a decent addition to the series. But to each his own I guess.

As to the initial question, it would certainly be a different film, but I would have liked to see Apone survive. Him or Dietrich.

I thought of Ferro as well, however the film would simply end after they get picked up by the dropship. There would be little point in going back rearmed and ready this time (in the same movie) for Apone or Dietrich as they were about to become hosts... And Ripley would be 100% satisfied about leaving as Newt would be right by her side.

By the way- they "probably" wouldn't have airlocked Burke, as at that point Ripley didn't know he ordered the Jordan's to check out the Derelict (sealing the colony's fate), and while being a smarmy and arrogant Company man, he had not "turned evil" yet.

What about all that poor ammo in Frost's bag that didn't make it?

I liked Alien3 well enough... But certain aspects, like that mentioned, just seemed ill-contrived and last-minute.

SSgt Burton wrote:

Depends on what orders come back. Perhaps await reinforcements and then BAM - Full-on Colonial Marine goodness!!!
In fact, it could end up a battle between CMs and WY troops over who secures the colony first.

SSgt Burton wrote:

I'm sure he'd try some desperate way to bring back an Alien or sabotage the escape and get booted for that. Or he'd try and recover the colony data logs, they'd get read and he'd at least be restrained for return and trial.

here's my tuppence worth.....I'd have liked the Hamsters to have survived....Think it would have been a great addition to the film to see Ripley rescue Newt, then just as they're blasting away from the platform in the atmosphere processor Newt turns to Ripley....."I knew you'd come.........but what about Hammy and Fluffy?"
Ripley did it for Jonesy....why not Hamsters too? They could even have had their own little cryo tubes! ahhh.....
Sorry.....erm, in response to the original topic, I would have liked Frost to survive, if Drake had made it I don't think we would have seen that dynamic develop between Vaz and Hudson.

Crowe, hands down Crowe!!

'Why?' you ask.
Well...why not? ;)

He could have been a company plant, an android set to go bad, an alien in disguise, maybe even the brother of Hudson who just had to go down the shaft after him instead of everyone going the way Newt suggested. Seriously....bunch of bad ass marines and they follow the 8 year old who carries a severed dolls head around into an air shaft? Come on!!

Not only was Crowe SAS, he was a Royal Marine too! :D for that alone he shoulda led the squad to survival, defeating the Alien Queen himself!

But seriously, Frost. Funny, sharp wit, and good with a musette bag....ahem....

I think Frost would have provided a comedic aspect to the characters which wasn't present. I don't mean Hudson whining wasn't funny, but each character who made past the initial battle brought a different element to the survivor pool. Frost would have brought something unique, which is why I didn't pick Drake. I think maybe he and Vas would have been similar characters.

I'd have to say Apone. Would of loved to see more of him throughout the film and how he would deal with the bugs after learning they're strategies.

I'd say Hicks, he was so happy to be leaving when the dropship was on its way, I felt sorry for him when it crashed xD

Guys some of you need to read the question again it says "survive the initial encounter" that would be the SNAFU in the Atmosphere Processor!
So votes for Hicks, Hudson, Vasquez and come to that Spunkmeyer and Ferro are all invalid since none of them died in that encounter!

Unless you count everything prior to the Last Stand in Operations as the first encounter and even then no-one saw Spunkmeyer or Ferro actually die! True he got a spoogey hand and a xeno did enter the cockpit behind Ferro but who's to say the blood on the inside of the canopy wasn't actually a superficial wound and she actually managed to eject before the xeno finished her off or the Dropship crashed?

Just Sayin' ;)
