The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The Pentax lens will be glued directly to the plexi cover in front of the TV screen.

But should I remove the lip on the back where it would screw into the camera? Doing so would allow the lens to lie flat against the plexi, and make the bond a heck of a lot stronger.

Thoughts?

You might damage the internal events of the lens If you disassemble it, so how about making a hole in the plexi?

The lens won't be used for anything (it is purely ornamental), and I am really worried about the plexi cracking. Is there a technique that reduces that risk?

I’m not sure but Google can probably help you. Do you know exactly what the material is?

Oh sorry it’s part of the computer. I’m on my phone at the moment and didn’t look closely at the image. In that case I understand your apprehension!

Was thinking the same thing. Make a hole.
(If it were me) I would get a scrap piece of plexi to test, put down a couple layers of masking tape where you want the hole and beyond, mark the center, and use a fine tooth hole saw on a cordless drill.

If you don't like the results, or still don't want to do it, yeah, alter the lens.

Thanks to Harry and Moosh I now own an Apricot computer! With the innards removed and the pieces rearranged I end up with this:

Attachment:
118028568_10217052275034583_2332715083712982685_n.jpg

With the Panasonic TV added we have the vital pieces in place.

I need to build up a base to support the TV and match the angle of the original, then I will focus on the greeblies on the bottom panel and then the upper vents and cover.

I want to thank everyone who has pitched in on this thread, I literally could not have done this without the Aliens Legacy community.

Welcome to the Apricot club! :D

I’ve been on the run from vintage computer enthusiasts for hoarding them all!!!

She’s a beaut, as is your build. Excited to see it all come together for you!!!

Getting it ready for painting, including the 3D printed keypad that martinr1000 kindly designed for me.

Painting it black:

And then silver:

So this project is still chugging along. My next hurdle is the vacuformed cover for the TV screen, but first I need to build up the base to unify the two pieces and support the weight of the portable TV.

I would find a rubber washer the diameter of that lense and use it in between the lense and plexi.

Blocking the vents on the inside really helps the look. Compare the top vent (not blocked) to the bottom and you can see the difference that it makes.

The Burke business card replicas out there aren't quite accurate. The WY logo for example, or the layout in relation to the back edge:

Attachment:
20200930_173514.jpg
20200930_173514.jpg [ 407.86 KiB | Viewed 1594 times ]

But they are also too wide!

Attachment:

20200930_165334.jpg [ 352.46 KiB | Viewed 1594 times ]

The slot in the Apricot component is narrower than expected. Given that the original prop(s) no longer exist, I would commend Mike Rush for getting it as close as he did.

Also worth noting, the card that Burke holds in the medium shot (as opposed to the close up which was filmed later) is rectangular, not tapered!

You can see it in this publicity shot too:

I can't quite believe that this hadn't been spotted until relatively recently. Me and Moosh were discussing it just a few months ago. I love stuff like this though, there's always more to discover about this incredible film!

I keep looking for the "like" button, but of course it's not here...

It's great to see these projects going again having been away from the board for a while. :D
