The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

The seller claims this model of GRiD laptop is the same model used in the sentry guns scene in Aliens.

For those who may not know... this model is not even close.

I own a GRiDCASE Tempest which is very similar to the screen used GRiD Compass II-

Compare this with the seller's GRiD:

Image

The seller's GRiD is a model 1755.

The seller claims "This is an Original grid laptop made in the 1980's used in the classic film Aliens!!"

The 1755 model was marketed in the early 1990s. It is NOT the model used in the film, nor is it a close facsimile.

Just a heads up to anyone who might consider buying this.

Jeez, you guys are such nit pickers.

Sure, the keys are the wrong color, the screen is the wrong shape, the configuration is completely different and the overall dimensions don't match, but it has a Weyland-Yutani patch* beside it so it must be the one from the film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Weyland-Yutani patch not included in auction because seller is a douche.

Yep... I saw that one pop up too.

The seller's description of that laptop is incorrect on sooooo many levels that I'd swear it was purposely written to be a joke listing.

Although I don't know exactly what year GRiD released the 1755 model, not only was it after 1985 when Aliens was filmed, but it was no longer an $8,000 portable... let alone the $10,000 that the seller boasts. The newest GRiD laptop I own is a GRiDLite Plus Model 1040, made in 1987. There were SEVERAL other models released prior to the 1755, which I don't believe can be any older than 1990.

This particular unit is only worth about $50 USD... in working condition. This one has no battery and is untested... so worth about maybe $10 to someone who might care.

I do feel a little bad for the seller though, especially after reading on his auction posting that it took him MONTHS to locate the wrong GRiD laptop.

According to this website it was released in 1993 (you have to scroll down a bit for the 1755 information). I'm not 100% on the accuracy of the website's info- but am willing to accept that year as a "circa" answer.

HEY! That looks like 'auctionsherpa'. Must have changed his name (again). He has quite the bad rep on the rpf with numerous threads accusing him of many things (some non-deserved, some quite accurate).

If its the same guy, this would not appear to be a case of mistaken facts. The elaborate write ups, incorrect info and often insane prices for 'flipped' items is a very deliberate attempt to take advantage of the lesser informed. I hate that.

(*Disclaimer - I freely admit the above info is a personal opinion which has been formed based on other people's reports/comments and what I have seen from the recurring and clearly recognizable aliens gear constantly peddled by him. Nothing I have just said is necessarily "true" as I dont know him, have never had an exchange with him, can't confirm any identities, and certainly don't mean to imply I am speaking from a position of hands-on knowledge. Just my opinion.)

I was going to search a site that I used to visit frequently to get much of my 'filler' information regarding GRiD's, but I couldn't manage to locate it within the 5 minutes I had to look this morning. It's funny that the info you found states '1993' as the release date, because I was tempted to use that exact date as my best guess. That being said, 1993 is most likely correct.

Hey now Kev -- just because I happen to own more than one... er, more than two... uhm... closer to eight, err...

...okay, TEN! Ten GRiD laptops! Just because I happen to own ten different GRiD laptops (and two external GRiD harddrives ;)) doesn't mean I'm the resident anything! Well, okay... maybe I do know some stuff... but it was Russ who put that wicked GRiD history thread together -- definitely a thread worth linking to here for a great reference read! 8)

You mean like those Pulse Rifle slings that are sooooo accurate that they put Noble's beautiful slings to shame? (extra thick sarcasm here with a side of WTF?) I believe Matt ID'd those as commonly found $4 canteen straps.

I am somewhat familiar with this particular information/disinformation, and that is my take on it as well.

WHo the buck are you to accuse me of anything you dumb buck . Go back to your community of jerkoffs what an basshole."

Crom... somebody bought it. :|

Okay this is ridiculous! I just checked his other auctions (not listed before today)-

There is what I would say are two Spat helmets that he wants $449 and $499 for.

A set of ABS armour (with no straps or buckles) for $1900...

No really?

And what looks like one of Matsuos shoulder lamps... although I don't know what you'll actually be getting because I'm pretty sure
those are Matt's own pics of that lamp (mind you I'm not 100% sure... but I'm pretty sure).

Not to mention Derek Baena's PR data card, that the seller must have bought several of (he wouldn't think of selling unauthorized copies would he? ).

What a piece of work THIS guy is!

Oh and to top things off...

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/181028802774

Here's the auction he won for the GRiD.

He flipped it for over twice what he paid.

And the pulse rifle sling he wants $30 for... cost him $2.35.

Buyer beware guys! If in doubt, do your homework.

Kevin

Ok I can tell this much looking at his auctions

1)The picture is the the same picture of the armor Matsuo painted for me a little more then a year ago. He took a blank picture of the camo being done as blank template so he and I could mess around in paint/photoshop(mostly him) and find the correct placement of the things I wanted on my armor. I recognize not only the backround but the camo, as I specifically asked him to go "light" on the shading/wear on the armor.

2)I noticed that it is a set of spat armor he is trying to list. I could go on with the description he lists on it, but why bother. Also 1900 bucks USD. What a Rip off

3)Loved how he quite literally listed a noble shoulder lamp or at least the picture of it is.

4)Loved his 2 spat helmets in his auctions.

5)His alleged "screen used" kurt russell jersey. I have 99.% belief this is faked, along with any COA he can provide. Not just as I trust no screen used company besides the well know ones(Prop store,POH, etc) This is also to how crappy his item descriptions are, but then again I am intelligent and have been around replica props before. I just feel bad for anyone who actually buys this item.

6)Love his 3 dollar slings he wants 10x the price for. To bad Noble slings put his to shame.

I wont even bother with the other with the rest of his non alien props, to many noticeable things to prove just how terrible they are. I am simply to tired and have to be up in 7 hours for class on a sat morning.

What, no comment about him selling one of my silver grenades as "cast off an original"?

He's also selling my Grenade Boxes, my IR Sights and my Blade Mac 11's.

I don't know who he is, but he keeps buying grenade boxes off me, then painting them, popping the stickers on and then selling them on eBay.

As long as he keeps paying, I'll keep selling to him!

I assume he's doing the same with Matsuo and others.

 That's friggin' unreal Matt. Outstanding interpersonal skills aside, this sad excuse for a seller is just not right in the head. That sort of response warrants absolutely no need for a reply because he lives in his own little world which has absolutely no resemblance to any sort of reality or sanity.

And there we have it folks! It's all Spat's fault! When in doubt, always blame the original makers... because they are all clearly enabling the seller! :P

Oh yeah... and I was thinking about picking up a grenade box kit from Spat for $20, but I really feel sorry for this other guy trying to squeek out a living on eBay, so I think I'll buy it finished from him for $75. Sorry Spat! ;)

Yeah, there's no way I can compete. Who the hell wants to paint a box green and slap some stickers on it for $20 when someone else will do it for only $55 more! If you figure that it takes about 10 hours for the paint to dry, he's really only charging $5.50 per hour for labor. That's very reasonable in this economy.

Unless he clear coats it. Then he's only making $2.25 per hour. And that's an honorable endeavor that should be rewarded!
