The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That's darn impressive! Now all it needs is a cooling fan to keep you from getting heat stroke. :)

Well done!

Yeah, I think I'm worse off then a stormtrooper...

Unfortunately I can't use any fans in the helmet... it's basically a skull cap. I don't even have a liner. My noggin is too friggin big. Hopefully the vent holes on the side will help.

I might switch from the Propper tac suit (which is heavy duty material) to a thinner generic flightsuit.

I'll also try not to move around too much...

Well, I'm pretty happy with how things turned out...

So onto the next piece of work. GUNS!!! We need GUNS!!! Heehee...

I would like a really nice replica or airsoft. But going to cons they tend to frown on them, especially in CA. So I'll be making one in the rough shape of a MG34.

Thanks to MAA for pointing me at this website.

PVC mg34

Instead of using wood, I'll be using styrene. Much lighter and con friendly. I'll use the rough shape of the templates. This is what I have so far.

being a die hard Jin Roh fan i can't help but cry dave :(

the MG42 is what seperats the cartoom from the movies ino(and yes i know in stray dog they had a MG42 but the armor was like a black storm trooper from hell and if u watch some parts of the final battle u can see it was made out of foam or some soft materal)

an ideal i got is maby use a gutter and dremil out the vents on it cause at a quick glance the 34 a 42 are almost identical (main factor being the front part)

Yeah.... your right... :D I'm going the easy way out with the mg34. The good thing is that I'm making the gun so that the barrel comes off, so even if I go the easy way out first I can change the barrel.

That looks like a clone trooper rifle, with the double trigger thing. Is that how the guns from Jin-Roh look?

Yeah baby! :D

Have you ever tried firing one of those from the hip? You're basically doing all you can to stop from getting knocked back and on your butt, let alone trying to continue to hit your target while holding onto the bipod as a foregrip. ;)

Nice MG-342 you've started Dave! You are just banging this project out like no ones business -- awesome work! :D

I hate weapons policies in CA...

Quote:
Quote:FANIME WEAPONS POLICY 2006
The purpose of our Weapon Policy is to clarify Fanime's position on the carrying and use of prop weapons, costume pieces, or actual weapons. It is intended to be subordinate to Federal, State and Local laws as well as the policies of all space occupied by FanimeCon. The written policy is subject to change without notice or explanation. The definition of a weapon for the purpose of this policy is anything that is, looks like, or might look like it is dangerous to anyone when viewed up to 20 feet away in poor light. The skill or training of the person in possession of said item is irrelevant. Any actual ineffectiveness of the item in question is irrelevant. If a police officer could think it is a weapon at 20 feet in the dark then it falls under this policy. If there is a reasonable chance the item may cause harm, or could be used to cause harm, on accident or on purpose, or make a person reasonably believe they may come to harm it also falls under this policy.

It's not like the costume wouldn't already be scary in the dark.
I may have to scrub this project... well at least finish it and give it to some poor unarmed ST.

I'm going to build a couple of panzerfausts now...

Can I ask just one question Dave,Why live in CA ?,it is as bad as Australia when it comes to anti weapon hysteria. I'm a bit lucky as I have a restricted weapons license, and I still can't own a pulse rifle over here.

You have done a magnificent job on your outfit,it just cries out for that MG 34/42.

Thanks Iain, sounds like you guys have it worse of in the land down under. At least I have my PR and there are some places where you can use it.

I will complete the Mg34-42.

Actually it's more like the front end of a Mg34 with the backend of a MG42. I made the front end barrel when I got home from work yesterday. It's the quick and easy alternative. I'll swap out the barrel later for one that looks more like a mg42 when I have time to work on it.

I couldn't sleep... Not until I redid the grip and worked on the stock.

The stock was tricky. I traced out what I thought the shape should be. Then I hand formed it using a heat gun. Once both halves were done, I trimmed and joined the two and touched up uneven spots with the gun.

Thanks Rick! It's comments like that which drive me to make the best I can. I'm actually surprising myself with this lil project.

I didn't realize what kind of rounds I was using. I'm quite illiterate with firearms. Since you brought it up I did a little checking and ya know, they do look like m60 rounds and belt... I bought them online for $6.99. I needed a cheap alternative to the real thing. The gun itself isn't costing me more then $15-20 bucks to make, just a lot of my time. Plus I'm trying to keep withing CA weapons policies. I didn't want it to look too realistic. Unfortunately, I seem to be failing badly!!!

These ammo belts are nice! I bought two at $19.97 shipped. Didn't realize that there was 100 rounds or else I would have bought only one. Great for making a RAMBO costume.

Dave... I'm not sure if I should continue to commend you on your outstandingly excellent progress, of if I should start cursing you for your, [ahem!]... blatant showing off. ;)

Seriously though... that is coming together incredibly!

I love how the plastic toy brass rounds look in the ammo belt. I had to take a couple of double-takes to make sure of what I was (or was not) actually seeing there. It looks like you're using a real M-60 ammo belt -- correct? Although not an MG-34/42 ammo belt, still very convincing. Great job!

You know that after this is all completed you're going to have to post a full tutorial for everyone to drool, er... learn from. ;)

Well that pretty much wraps it up. I'll redo the front end of the rifle later or then again just built a new one from scratch.

Here are some decent pics. Please pardon the scrapes on the armour. It's hard to manuver into a decent stance with a 10 sec timer and a wall nearby. hahaha!!!

Dude, let me just say that you've done an awesome job, and you definitely look the part. Congrats!

Regarding the MG34 vs. MG42 issue... In the anime they used the MG42, but in the graphic novels they used the MG34. With that in mind I'd say you're okay with either style of Machine gun. :)
