I can explain that, giving a little background info first:
FACTS is thé convention around these parts, known pretty well across Belgium's border. But up to last year, cosplaying revolved around two themes mostly: Star Wars and anime/manga. Ever since last year, me and my fellows from the Belgian Costume Division have been trying to bring more movies, tv-series, comics and games onto the scene. At first SW dominated everything (pretty much thanks to ourselves, because we initially started out as the Belgian 501st Garrison, which now has become a sub-part of the larger BCD). Some of our members did make costumes that weren't SW, but the balance was something of 1 non-sw versus 10 SW costumes.
Last year however, we started having more and more members interested in non-SW and brought several new things to FACTS, such as Hellboy, 5 Ghostbusters and my Colonial Marine.
The response was immense.
Obviously, people grew too acquainted with SW-costumes and were happy to see some new stuff. This year, we drew the line further.
Everything we presented @ FACTS was new, with only Jabba and the R2-builders, being the Star Wars items. Our fellow 501st Garrisons brought the SW costumes.
FACTS had never before seen an Alien warrior costume, nor a gang of marines. With the UK and Germans spanning together, the audience had 10-15 marines at once, plus two bugs. No wonder you got a lot of attention, eh?
That way, I was pretty comfortable leaving all my alien stuff on display at the stand. You guys provided all the alien-costuming the visitors needed.
Thanks guys.
