The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello all.

Just arrived back myself. I am EXTREMELY tired, so don't expect a report just yet.

Nice to meet all the other marines at the event. It was indeed a very good event.

I will post more when I finally get some sleep.

Those of you who remember that I posted about the short film we're making: we set up an entire scene, with jeep, to commercialise the film. Everything shown at the stand was used in the film, including the costumes worn by these two soldiers.

Keep checking the gallery, because more will be added later!

Here are my pix from FACTS.

The UKCM presenting Lance with his badges; Some of us with Michael Ironside and John Terry (LOST & Hawk the Slayer); a few punters; with Ze Germans; Pug50 and I as Aliens (my first time out in that bloody suit) and my personal favourite, a photo with Helga & Grueber from Allo Allo.

I'll let somebody else post the pix of the journey home.

Had a great weekend, thanks to Geordie for driving, and to all the other lads for some memorable antics!

Thanks to the German Marines and German Garrison for a good nights drinking at the hotel – bring some of that Honey Mead to England next year! :o

Looking forward to another outing sometime. :D

UKCM RULES!

Yeah, UKCM rocks!

We all had the greatest time. Excellent event and great "socials". I think Andrew and I got even more attention than we expected to! We were complete xeno-tarts! The marines were looking pretty sharp too. ;)

And Alien escaped on the ferry home!!! Pics to follow soon...

I can explain that, giving a little background info first:

FACTS is thé convention around these parts, known pretty well across Belgium's border. But up to last year, cosplaying revolved around two themes mostly: Star Wars and anime/manga. Ever since last year, me and my fellows from the Belgian Costume Division have been trying to bring more movies, tv-series, comics and games onto the scene. At first SW dominated everything (pretty much thanks to ourselves, because we initially started out as the Belgian 501st Garrison, which now has become a sub-part of the larger BCD). Some of our members did make costumes that weren't SW, but the balance was something of 1 non-sw versus 10 SW costumes.
Last year however, we started having more and more members interested in non-SW and brought several new things to FACTS, such as Hellboy, 5 Ghostbusters and my Colonial Marine.

The response was immense.
Obviously, people grew too acquainted with SW-costumes and were happy to see some new stuff. This year, we drew the line further.

Everything we presented @ FACTS was new, with only Jabba and the R2-builders, being the Star Wars items. Our fellow 501st Garrisons brought the SW costumes.

FACTS had never before seen an Alien warrior costume, nor a gang of marines. With the UK and Germans spanning together, the audience had 10-15 marines at once, plus two bugs. No wonder you got a lot of attention, eh?
That way, I was pretty comfortable leaving all my alien stuff on display at the stand. You guys provided all the alien-costuming the visitors needed. :)

Thanks guys. :)

Had a fantastic few days of Anglo/European public relations with great travel companions. The id cards that were made for us were fantastic. The social with ze germans on sat night was great. We were given a few goodies by the german garrison who were a great bunch.Really wish id taken some UKG goodies with me,still i know for next time. Our costumes were very well recieved, though the bugs totally stole the show IMHO.Was geat to be in a complete costume this time the breast plate and headset made a huge diference(certainly to me anyway). The ferry trip home was one of the funniest most bizarre things ive been part of,but ill let the pics/vids that should surface soon explain.Plenty of cool pics/vids were taken. We got pics with most of the guest signings.Lances presentation was great and i think he was genuinly blown away.Congrats to ADC for breaking his costuming cherry you certainly appeared to be enjoying every minute, and Pug50 i bow down in the presence of the biggest camera whore ive met,and trust me ive met plenty, dude we really need to give you some kind of award.Big thanks to Geordie for all that driving, though it probably would've been easier had i not left my phone(it has euro tom tom on it)on my car seat.I think i might have been a little excited as i nearly left my boot and drivers door wide open as well.Hope to go back next year providing it doesnt clash with the NSC event. The UKCM most certainly do rock.LETS GET IT ON

Could it not just be because Aliens are the coolest creatures in the known universe? ;)

Here is the (beta version) UKCM Gallery of the event:

UKCM Gallery (v0.2)

It will expand as we add all our photos to it.

I only saw two pictures of your AT-5 so far, made by a visitor and of poor quality. So, they won't help much. But I'll ask around. The AT-5 parked in front of our stand a while, so someone is bound to have pictures. Maybe the R2-builders took some.

Yes, the big robot suit shown in the R2-builders' gallery is indeed the AT-5 suit from our German marines. I knew some R2-builder had to have some pictures. :)

The second slave Leia was there during the final minutes of FACTS, just to have her picture taken with Jabba. She's from the Netherlands, while the first one came with the R2-builders (I think) and was there in costume the entire Saturday.
