 My father provided me with the "helmet." As you can see it is shaped like the old steel pot helmets, just a whole lot lighter and cheaper. just needs some work. It's a start.

good eye guys. any recomendations on materials i can canabalize for the build, been pausing the blu-ray and using a magnafing glass with the uscm tech manuel trying to get things worked out. oorah |

thanks, planning on stoping buy a surplus store today to see what I can find to add on to it. I had forgotten how heavy the old steal pot helmets were compared to the kevlar helmets. |

That looks like something you should save and not cut up. Please, if you can, find a cheap 1980s helmet w/liner to cut up to make into a Colonial Marines helmet. |

I'll keep my eyes open for other options. It is a piece that my father as a collector found and purchased for the chin strap that hee needed. I do not plan on cutting it up, but repairing, repainting, and adding on to. I do have a great respect history, especially that of the millitary history. Also as a Marine I'll do what I can to preserve the past, you have my word that I'll treat it with great respect. |

To convert it into a USCM helmet you need to be willing to (bare minimum) hack a 1" by 3" chunk out of the right side for the ear flap, hence Aaron's concern. |

okay, I'll give my father a call and see what he can tell me about the year it is from, and what else he can tell me. If it did come from the 80s I'll go with using it, if eailer then I won't use it. |

That sounds like a plan. I want you to have an easy time getting geared up, but if you've got something that was rare or worth money it would be a real bummer if that got wrecked. That's all! |

I have just checked some facts about the liner I have and due to a large crack that the liner has it has lost all of its value. So due to the damage that it has sustained I'm going to go with it. I agree that if it was rare and had historical value I would never use it. I did do the checking that I said I would, and have begun repairs using JB spot weld wood glue. I'm going to adapt and over come as mutch as I can with it, and be as respecfull as I can. |

Painted up just right I think that crack could be a really cool addition to your "impression". It would have a nice battle damaged been-to-hell-and-back sort of feel. |

Out of curiosity are there any markings in the center of the crown on the inside of the liner? Also there are places (I can't remember offhand) where you can get a cheap sweatband to snap in there. As well as a nape strap. |

My father just found a sweat band. No markings that I could find other than what I've posted. I'll be stopping in at some of the local surplus stores to see what I can find. I hope that the finished product will have some personality to it. |

okay, I just took a hack saw to a small trash can for the section of the m10 helmet. now I need some sand paper to round out the edges, and some auto edging. Looks like a trip to the hardware store in the mourning (good excuse to go to one, huh). Will post pictures as soon as i get that part of the build done, and if i'm satisfied with it. |

Well, the original plan for the helmet was a bust. Still have the liner, but going to have to break down and buy the parts from spatcave just wish funding was not an issue. I'm hoping that for the torso build things will go a little better. |
