The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi Devildog: I used a rivet gun to do all my riveting as there are some tricky angles you'll need to deal with. Traditional riveting seemed like it might make things more difficult. I used scrap webbing from L.L.Bean backpacks for the entirety of my build, so second hand webbing is perfectly fine in my book! But I didn't use a pre-existing harness setup, I just riveted sections of webbing where I needed them (shoulders, sides, across the collar bone etc.).
The abpad was from a second hand sporting goods store, and appears to have been a child's full body catcher's pad for baseball. I chopped the top off it but that's hidden by my armour anyway. Being kid's sized made the padded segments narrower and therefore closer in size to the Screen Accurate ones.

As an homage to A:CM I taped a couple Spat grenades to my shoulder plate. I'm actually pretty happy with how this looks, even if it isn't SA.

Nice touch. Makes your armor more personal, seeming how nobody else has done it.

Matt: I'm carrying a really poor recast of an Icons PR that I busted my hump to make look halfway decent. I hope to someday have a full set of HORPAT, but the Polish stuff really is working for me (and quite a few other folks on here I see!).

Chris: when I first saw the art from A:CM with the guy wearing them on his shoulder I scoffed as it seems like an easy target for a sniper, but then I noticed they aren't that much higher up than the ones on the front straps! Those red caps are like bulls eyes!

Being a goofy nerd I whipped this up as a comparison:

I didn't take it as shit talking at all! The Colonial Marine armour is head and shoulders above most sci-fi armies as far as realism goes, but red glowing LED readouts on rifles (pointing out!), red caps on grenades and (as you said) red hearts painted on armour are all pretty goofy. I love it though!

Sorry for the necro post, this thread isn't too old. Just read all the way through and have to say, your armor looks amazing and very inspiring! I'm moving away from my Star Wars days and would love to do a Marine costume. Thanks again for a great thread!

Thanks man! Star Wars is awesome, but Aliens is where it's at (or that's what I keep telling myself anyway).

Give the bin armour a try and see what you can make. This community is extremely supportive, so ask all the questions you have along the way (but also try the search engine and the archives). Good luck Marine. :delta:

that is some very cool work:) kudos to you :)

I loved the Dark Horse comics. The novels as well, but was annoyed they had to change "Hicks" to "Wilks" (I think that was it) for contractul reasons or some such.I even bought some of the Aliens cartoon figures:) (still have the "scorpion" alien, but lost Apone sadly:( )

Now I'm off to the nearest utility store.....;)

regarding using the bins as the material, how easy was it to work with? Was there any problems getting it into shape? ive been sat on my hands trying to make me some armour for a while now, this seems like a solid way to go.

Retrogarde!

Great work! Could you share the rest of the Cutting stencils of Your armour? (Back of the armour, etc).
I belive this could be a Great alternative, if the Lower half of the "Hourglas" shape is installed somehow.

Thank you!

Akos

Jimwillis: I found it to be pretty easy to work with. Some bins are very brittle and have no give at all. Avoid those and find ones that are a little rubbery. They will be much easier to cut and form, and will reshape in hot water.

AkosSzecsi: I'm afraid there really wasn't much of a pattern to the back. It is the bin with the entire bottom cut off, the top rim removed, and then turned upside down and cut along the sides. The back has semi-circles cut into it for the neck and arms, and then I submerged the upper back in hot water to reshape it to wrap around the top of my back. If you were feeling more ambitious you could cut out the indented shapes and glue or rivet more plastic behind to make more accurate armour. I may still go back and do that!

I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
