The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So I've been looking for a bit of graffiti for the new crotch plate I got from Noble when Dom posted this image that didn't (quite) make it into Lee's Technical Manual:

Attachment:

To see Dom's awesome collection of other apocrypha click here:

Anyway, I was really taken with "Moose Harker: Greek Cowboy" and thought he'd be perfect. Even his catchphrase sounds like an invitation to a pissing contest!

So first I made a colorized version, trying to keep the "Hanna-Barbera" vibe:

Attachment:
Moose Harker Greek Cowboy.png

Then I printed it out, cut it out (and decided to lose the bounding circle and roman numeral), and glued it in place:

I'm not happy with the thickness of the white camo line on the bottom anyway, and even moreso now as it distracts from the graffiti, so I'll be fixing that. Then I need to weather and seal the whole thing and it will be ready to go!

Quick rundown of improvements:
Spat fabric sleeves and collar sewn on
belt tool clipped on,
binoculars sorted out
lid on (with brim bent a bit more)

Of course I replaced my crappy shoulder tabs with a pair of Bigbisont's *just* after taking this photo. Grrr...

My improved ab pad with painted and graffiti'd plates is done, I just didn't have it on for the photo. Mostly I was trying to highlight the sleeves as I think they turned out pretty well!

Knight Raider knife and better grenades are next on the list.

Looking good! A question on the added camo; looking at that picture I can see the difference between the collar and the bit of collarbone area not covered by the armor. Have you thought about making a dickie that would cover that part and go under the armor completely? Probably not worth the effort; from a distance I doubt I could tell the difference.

A dickie would be most excellent, and is more likely to happen than an actual Spat blouse. Another bandanna would give me enough fabric I think. It does start adding up of course...

Major Gunn: that's awesome! Take photos please and see if you can improve on my design!

I need a holster for my VP70, and I just haven't gotten around to making a screen accurate one yet. I'm not a huge fan of the green quilted look anyhow, so I'm toying with a few options:

Attachment:
holsters.jpg
holsters.jpg [ 473.96 KiB | Viewed 8513 times ]

On the left we have a nicely worn leather holster that fits the VP70 quite well. It is similar in shape and design to the SA version, and is in keeping with how Hicks stores his shotgun and lighter.
On the right we have a vintage 1980's Laser Tag holster. I like that it is small, can go on either hip, and really shows off the VP70. Also the Worlds of Wonder logo is strikingly similar to WY! I'd want to remove or tone down the red trim though. This is another piece that has nostalgic value for me as I used my Laser Tag gear as Colonial Marine equipment when I was a kid.

But what do other folks think?

Another possibility- a standard MOLLE M4 magazine pouch with the velcro lid such as:
http://www.military1st.co.uk/fy-ph-m001 ... -drab.html
This keeps the OD pouch theme of your belt kit but still shows off the VP70

I use one like this as it means I can switch between my Tanaka TRR8, WE PX4 and KJW 1911 for 'combat drops' as the mood takes me.

This was my '2nd draft' webbing layout where I had a strap mounted holster for my VP70.

The holster was a $5 ebay find I think called "small holster" or something crazy simple. Turns out it was CRAZY small. I had to cut off the top flap to be able to fit the VP70 in it, but it worked pretty well once I trimmed off the top flap. (i did leave the center portion of the flap that connected to the fastex buckle.

I am still thinking of working this as a cross draw into my wife's outfit.

Retro, I like the leather one...reminds me of the holster for Hicks' shotgun. You could say it was an heirloom.

I would go with the leather as Magnus said. Two reasons: one, it's LEATHER. Nothing says WOOHOO like leather. :) Two: the lasertag holster has no means of securing the weapon in place. One thing I have learned (the hard way) is that you always want SOMETHING retaining the pistol in the holster. If you lean over too much (or heaven forbid, run and jump) it's too easy to watch your pistol going sailing and skid across the floor.

How about combining the two?

Cut the black one to slide over the leather one, I think it could look rather dashing :)

the binos look great, on mine I put them in upsidedown so they would still focus

I might be using the trashcan idea for other projects in the future, we have used pickle barrels in the past for coats of plates and stuff like that, but this would be a little thinner :)

Lovin' it! Awesome build Given my chest size I do believe this is the route Im going to take vs waiting and hoping that one of the armor makers will fit. The link to the particular trashcan you used is gone, but Im sure i can find a similar can from similar plastic.

Just found this thread... Retro, those binos kick ASS! When Spat first posted about them there was some discussion about putting real lenses inside. Great to see it actually happen with step by step pics of the WIP. I want a set for myself even more now that I've seen the possibilities. Very cool indeed. 8)

This has got to be one of the best "How To" threads on the forum. Love the work you've done. I myself am also a big Laser Tag fan. And yes, the WOW logo is very close to the WY logo!

I've been holding on to this for a while, with the intention to add on and turn it into a "future" version of the Pulse Rifle. I think with a streamlined GL, to match the gun, it would make a nice next generation Pulse Rifle.

Dewka: Thanks man, I really appreciate that! As long as you can get past the goofiness of holding plastic garbage cans up to your chest in the hardware store I'm sure you'll find a good match. Just make sure it is pliable plastic and not the cheap brittle stuff.

Mudshark: Thanks! We just need to get Rob Slater to post pictures of how exactly he made his *working* conversion. I'm wearing them for the first time this weekend on a drop so we'll see if they are too bulky to leave around my neck. I don't want to end up feeling "encrusted" if you know what I mean!

Robiwon: Dude, I'm sitting on a pair of these puppies as well. I'd love to do a SPAS cage mod on the front or something. The curved shape makes it a bit tricky, but damn I think it has potential!

Yeah, they can go for a pretty penny. But you can find them for a good price if your patient. I'm missing the battery door on the bottom of mine. Need to make a new one. I've actually been thinking about picking up a second to keep "nice" and turn this one into something more fitting the USCM. Oh, and retrogarde just said he has two of them!
