I'm trying to put together a Colonial Marine uniform and was wondering. What style boots do I need?

Nope, they're Vibram soles.

But to be honest, no one bothers checking so get whatever jungle boots you can find. ;)

Actually, I seem to recall commenting on a thread a while back where Harry (I think) points out that both types were used in the film.

Yes, Spat. But, that's for personal reasons, not uniform reasons.

No, I'm not the one here with the foot fetish. I just like to make sure people's costumes are 110% accurate!

Yup, Hicks does wear the Vibram sole.

But I have noticed that Gale Ann Hurd (when doubling for Vasquez) wore boots with no discernable sole pattern:

Vasquez wore regular leather combat boots, not the jungle boots. Those have a different sole than the jungle boots. This link has some pretty good ref pictures: http://lastpatrol.wordpress.com/referen ... bat-boots/

The boots I found are like these 'cept more weathered and worn. Sole's in very good condition as weel, that was a nice surprise. They'd be good?

That will certainly suffice. My boots are all black, because I originally had a black and grey camo scheme instead of the standard. Now that I use screen accurate BDU's, I really need to get around to getting the right boots.... :?

I've got 4 or 5 sets of 1980s dated vietnam jungle boots. I can cut anyone here a good deal if I have your size.

They may be the wrong sole pattern  , but yes, they'll do fine. :)

Yup, and the pilots wore black jump boots.

Me? I wear Magnum Classic because I like to be comfortable. ;)

I agree with vicky on this after not being able to walk very well the day after drops i have switched to magnums, while not seen on screen they are far more comfy and the greaves hide most of the boot anyway

Didn't Gorman wear the black ones too?

Here's an old 'hiker's trick' for breaking in new boots. Wear a pair of nylon booties on your feet inside your socks. It allows you to walk all day in new or old boots while greatly reducing the chance of blisters. I wear them to all sorts of events and my feet are always fine.

Do they need to have the right sole? I don't want to be harrased just 'cause they have the wrong sole.

No, you won't be harassed. We're not that kind of costuming group. Wear fluffy pink slippers for all we care. ;)

Depends who you ask.
Personally, unless the person harrassing me over such a minute detail is the exact same actor in the exact same outfit with the exact same props from the movie, I'd tell 'em to get stuffed!
I draw the line at, "Looks good enough to look the part". Kevin Burton's armour being a classic example.

Be as accurate as you can *and* as you care to be. It'd be nice to be 100%, but this is just dressing up for fun and there will always be limits and limitations. First and foremost, be happy, satisfied or simply content with what you can achieve and focus more on enjoying yerself! :D

Or do as I did and buy a very old pair which had already seen some wear and tear.

I can wear my boots for 12 hours of walking standing around on Drops with no rubbing or blisters. :)

Be sure to get the right size also.
Jungle boots tend to be smaller than the normal boot, so if your 9 then try a 9-wide or even 10.

I recently found a boot called OTB 455MBG JungleLite Boot, pretty close to the original Jungle Boot in looks but SO much more comfortable, a lot like Magnums in design.

http://www.botachtactical.com/otb455mbg.html $39.98 down from $142.99, they still have most sizes available.
