The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

First off, I want to say I am in NO WAY trying to compete with Dom's patches. I REALLY like his patches, and I even used his as inspiration for these (Hope that is OK!). I think some of these can go hand in hand with his patches too :) I do plan to buy some of his to use on my shirts :)

I originally decided that I wanted to try designing patches because then I could get them made smaller to fit my small shirt. I am a graphic artist, and do this for fun. I wanted to see what I was capable of.

I also wanted to encorporate a heavy Canadian feel to them, so when you look at them you know :).

I am not finished all of the ones I want to do yet, I mostly still want to try a patch based on the Sulaco one as well, with a really western Canadian ship name... Any suggestions for a good name are welcome!! (I keep thinking "Chinook" for some reason)

Northern Bug Stomper - Red (First version)
I like this one because it is most like the screen used Bug Stomper patch, and the red looks nice as it "pops" out. I left the pine trees out cause I thought it looked "christmas-y". I also like that not all the patches are blue based with this red patch :)

Image

Northern Bug Stomper - Blue (Second Version)
I couldn't pinpoint what I didn't like about the Red version, and it looked alittle naked, so I threw some pine trees in to make it more "Northern".

Image

Northern Bug Stomper - Green (Third Version)
I must say I really really like how this one turned out!, looks very Northern, Woods-y and vintage Military

Image

MOOSH's UACM Aerospace (Dropship) Patch - Latin
This one I had alot of fun making. I really liked Doms with the 10 point stars and latin motto, and I really liked the shield from the USCM screen used one. I thought I would like to see a Canadian Bird on the top, what better choice than a majestic Canada Goose? Answer: A GOLDEN Canada Goose! ;). I had fun drawing the Goose and colouring it just right :). "EXCELLENTIA SUPER OMNIA" means "EXCELLENCE ABOVE ALL", which is featured as the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operation's motto on their crest.

Image

MOOSH's UACM Aerospace (Dropship) Patch - English
Exactly the same as the Latin Version, but in English, like the USCM screen used one :)

Image

MOOSH's UACM "U.A.S. BOREALIS" Patch
This one is the least original haha. I just closely followed the Sulaco ship patch, and added in a few things like Dom's patch. Then threw in a random Battalion and Regiment number. I chose BOREALIS after western Canada's Boreal Forests :)

Image

"U.S. SULACO GLOBAL STAR FIGHTERS" - Unused Patch design from ALIENS (Expanded Universe, perhaps?)
I found a sketch by James Cameron on the Anthology set the other night, and thought it would be fun to complete it. Maybe since this place is the home of the Colonial Marines, you guys can come up with a name for this style fighter ship :) Or even help me define what it should look like. I tried to follow the Dropship and vietnam era fighterjets when doing the fine details. I don't consider this to be a complete patch. It is very very similar to JCs sketch

Image

That is all for now, I will add more as I come up with more

Suggestions welcomed!

The Sasquatch patch would have to be a woven patch for that kind of small detail.

I think if I did a run of these I would definitely go with the red Sasquatch over the blue Sasquatch

Could you PM me a patchmaker recommendation?

I am not sure how big I would need my patches, I am assuming I would need them smaller than the standard size you would expect from ALIENS patches, but I won't know for sure until I get my shirts, which won't be til October sometime, when they become available to ship to Canada unless I can miraculously find them elsewhere haha.

I have found some sites, but unsure of how well they do. Need to investigate further :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks Dom! I'll look into it more when I have more loot :) Need to get back to work!

I did find a place in China that can do custom embroidery/woven patches with no minimums. I may try them for my smaller ones :). I can provide a link if you'd like?

Loving the designs MOOSH!

Is it bad that I'm partially redesigning the Bigfoot one in my head?

In my minds eye I'm visualising the text on the Bigfoot Patch changed as follows Upper Arc "My What BIG Feet You Have!" and Lower Arc "All The Better To STOMP You With!"

Okay I hate throwing a monkeywrench in here, but I really like the blue Bug Stomper patch better.

The blue sets it apart from the common red BG patch- and I "do" like the trees as it instantly makes me think "Canada."

I didn't get the feeling of "Christmas" at all. :)

Just providing my 2 cents- sorry if this complicates things.

I like that the Blue patch has the trees as well. I could add them to the red patch.

I just assumed that having too many blue patches would look kinda weird. I did think about making a Green (like an earthy green)one, maybe I'll try that :)

Also I am adding another patch to the OP, keep an eye open :)

Those are really cool looking patches. I'm still just thinking about how cool it would be to see Pulse Rifle totting Bigfoots taking on Xenos...I smell a potential vs movie being made. :D

I would prefer vessel nomenclature to be former Prime Ministers, Canadian cities, or Canadians of note. And no. No UAS Céline Dion.

I have added a Green Northern Bug Stomper Patch (Bigfoot) to the OP :)

And Dom, good idea, How about the "U.A.S. DEXTRE"? (Dextre is also known as the "Canada Hand")

But then I want to go for something more western Canada... Hmmm

You want to name a vessel after a robot? :|

If you want western, how about Campbell? Only Prime Minister of British Columbia.

Haha, I was ignoring the "Western Canada" thing and was thinking about Canada's Space history :), It was just a suggestion ;)

But then I figured it out... U.A.S. BOREALIS, after western Canada's Boreal Forests :)

Ya?, No?

So... I don't know why I never thought of this... HAHA

The company I work for (an Embroidery company) does patches. I don't know if she actually DOES the patches, or if she orders them but I know they do print patches, high quality ones too! (I don't know cause I have never actually been to the shop, despite it being walking distance from my house. Her house isn't wheelchair accessible haha)

I hear that actual screen used patches were silkscreened? right?... Well these are more durable than silkscreened patches, and they handle thousands of colours, and are excellent for fine detail. Minimums of 25 too!

I will ask her some more when I get a chance. I still may go with the chinese place to get my smaller patches done, as theres no minimums

Added my interpretation of a patch sketch by James Cameron that was never used for the film :)
