For some time now i have been looking for a RUC peaked Cap to finish my dress uniform , only i can not seem to find the right size ... So to all you guys who served in the Military .... if i buy a Peaked cap that is smaller than i need , can i stretch / steam the Cap to fit my Big head ? Any hints ideas would be useful , thanks .. |

I'd say no. The headband is made of leather and cardboard so there's not much stretch. I ended up cutting out part of the headband/sweatband on Bri's cap to make it fit better. What size hat are you? There's a 7 1/8th on ebay right now. |

If you can find one that is slightly bigger, you can always roll up paper to stick in the leather sweatband... We do that to our cowboy hats all the time, especially when competing when they need to stay on haha |

If i have measured my head right then i am a 7 5/8 head which is large ... i can only find caps that are smaller ... if i could find one bigger then that would not be a problem ... |

Yes, you can stretch it, anywhere between ¼and ½ a size larger, but that's about it... and it will shrink back a bit over time, so will need regular restretching. If you have a proper head-model-thing that milliners use to stretch hats, cool. Otherwise I'd strongly recommend getting a pro milliner to do this for you. And yes, there's a pro one here in Reading (but don't bring womenfolk - They always end up buying stuff from that shop!). |

Yeah, that 7 1/8th probably won't fit without some serious stretching. |

SD hats like that really don't stretch. It's not like working with a felt hat with leather sweatband. The main band is a ring of either heavy starched hessian or, more commonly, plastic. It's very much a set size. Hmm, 7 5/8 is a 61cm. Yeah, that's on the larger side. |

I've been doing some searching for you I found this hat on Ebay, for Buy it Now. It is a Russian peak hat that looks similar in shape to the RUC hat. You would want to get a cover for it though. It says all sizes available. I would ask them http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Soviet-army-cap- ... 19d3f734fa ![]() And this one, alittle cheaper, this one is Large, 59.5cm. It also says that you can ask and they will try find your size. Quote: if you need other size ,email me,I also will have a try to help you, thanks http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Collectable-Chin ... 2a1b553844 ![]() I also found this website, it may be pricey but you could ask them if they have 7 5/8s http://www.bernardcap.com/marineCorps.htm Here is one of the many peak hats they have, found under "Marine Corps" (there is more under other categories, but these look like Gormans) ![]() Some terms that I have found yeilding results, with either "Army" or "Military" before them: "Visor Hat", "Dress Hat" and "Service Hat" |
