Im looking at getting my hands on a gentex sph4 helmet. What is the difference between a sph4 and a sph4b. Is it the nvg mount on the front. Looking at doing a drop ship helmet for a bit of fun. |

Looks like the front visor/nvg cover has two slots on the sph4b (one on each side) and only one central slot on the screen accurate sph4. |

Yes the SPH4-b has the dual visor knobs because it has both tinted and clear visors (also has the nvg mount in the center): ![]() ^^This is the wrong model! For our purposes, the correct SPH4 only has a single visor knob in the center of the cover as it only has a single tinted visor: ![]() My SPH4. I haven't converted the ear sections or trimmed the visor knob yet. Paid about $275USD for it back in 2008. Hope this helps and the best of success! Kevin |

Pretty sure Spunkmeyer's is an sph4 too, but has the added section holding the targetting sight clipped over the front. Here's a Spunkmeyer replica: ![]() P1010713 by medwaypvb, on Flickr |

Found out today from a guy in new zealand that spesalizes in sph4 helmets said that sph4 helmets come in both 2 knobs for dual visors and single centre knob for single visor. The sph4 looks the same as the sph4b but the sph4b is kevlar not fibreglass like the sph4. there are a few other differences but not really noticeable from a distance. |

If you are looking for an SPH-4 there are a couple of things you should look for: - the right size (as far as I know there is regular and XL) - get one with the suspension liner instead of the later TPL (bubblewrap) liner - it should have an M87 Mikrophone - there should be no leather reenforcements on the earphone liner (forgot the correct name) - look for a long microphone boom (there are long and short versions available) if possible with a thumb screw at the microphone end - if you are very very .....very lucky, you can get a mic boom with the correct hinge as well Hope that helps, Stefan |
