The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Still undecided on what to put on the green hat, I need to make some more little stencils :)

Camotech was awesome enough to offer to resize the Corporal patch for me for the khaki hat! I am excited to get it and sew it on!

I also designed a pattern for another patrol cap, based off of one of my favourites in my collection already!. I have a plan that once I get more loot to spend frivelously I will order up some Spat Fabric :)

Speaking (err... typing) of hats, I just ordered the material to make a Visor hat. I know I could have just bought one, but I am pretty sure it would look funny on me, so I took that pattern that I found and posted and edited it, and designed it so it is adjustable like a baseball cap with a hole to stick my ponytail through, same plan as the green OG 107 Hot Weather Cap :)

And I got fed up of waiting to order that shirt too, in the off-chance that it may not even be that comfortable so I found a basic pattern for a womens button up shirt (which took some work!, suprisingly!) and also edited it to look like a fairly screen accurate Womens style of Gormans Service C shirt. We took my measurements both lying down and sitting up in my chair, to get the best comfort and mobility, went to town and shopped for fabric. The fabric store in town was fairly limited on selection, despite it being a good sized store, so I had to order the hat supplies online, which ate a good chunk of my set budget (Damn shipping!!). But we did find some nice khaki coloured material for the shirt!, and some buttons too :).

I am hoping our first attempt is good but my seamstress is a bit rusty :) And I have a general idea how to sew, but with my limited reach it is almost impossible, so I stick to designing and Mom sews (I sound like a kid saying that haha, My Mother and I are inseperable, we are pretty much partners in crime haha). We set up the sewing machine on the table this weekend and it was funny to watch her sitting there, staring at it with her glasses perched on the end of her nose with the granny string around her neck (She is only 50, but she thinks she is getting old haha, despite her physical mobility/fitness level as someone in their 30s), swearing at it, then breaks out the big tube of super glue to put the one cover back on hahaha.

I also edited the shirt pattern into a BDU one based on Vasquez's sleeveless BDU photos on Mr. Harris' site. I have combined her sleeveless top with Hudsons sleeves and have sketched it out in Photoshop based on the shape of the shirt of the pattern I have, so again, when I have more loot I will order some Spat fabric to make a womens style BDU top that is my perfect size, unless I decide for sure if camoflauge isn't feminine enough and decide to go with something like Gormans OG BDU shirt... but that Spat Fabric (and Mr Horrocks!) is suuure nice!

Anyway, starting on the Service C shirt tonight, hopefully!, I will probably take some photos along the way, depends on how "hands on" I get :)

Just a small update :)

As expected the first attempt at a shirt didn't go well but we kinda planned that haha. My sewer (mother) hasn't sewn in about 10 years. She never followed the pattern I prepped either bahaha and it was like midnight the night we started (the night of ^previous post) but we had fun.

The material we had was for practicing on but wasn't any good for a shirt, it was too thin. I found some better stuff on eBay for cheap too. I will probably order it after we get back from my brothers wedding if I can't find anything in the city. We are gonna follow the pattern next time too! Haha. We never "finished our laughable shirt either haha!

I ordered some supplies awhile back for a good crack at a custom service cap and it came in on Wednesday :) I resized that pattern I found and edited the back of it. The wool felt is damn near the right colour. I got some millinery wire to give it some shape and stiffness as well as a visor board sheet. I think for the visor board we will have to wait until we get our old leather sewing machine back from our neighbor who rescued it from our house after our fire. Mom was in shock still and didn't care about it and left it in the house before they were set to start demolition. The neighbor lady scooped it cause she knew my mom would regret leaving it haha.

On Friday I got the resized corporal patch from Camotech :) I can't wait to sew it on to my khaki cadet cap! I think while we are in Saskatoon I am going to hunt down a small sewing machine so I can sew stuff like hats and such. I've never had a sewing machine I could operate but I do enjoy making patterns and hand sewing.

Tuesday we need to get sewing pins and a cutting mat, unless another place in town has them in tomorrow.

Hey, Moosh, just a thought about the shirt...

Check ebay for used Boy Scout shirts from the US, from about 5-10 years ago. The fabric was pretty light, but durable.Thee shirts had a military style to them, which could be enhanced by adding pressed or sewn in creases over the button line and center back. The tan color is close, but it won't be an exact match.

If you're of a slight build, you should be able to find something serviceable in your size at a decent price.

The current issue BSA shirt has sleeve pockets, the previous run did not. Just so you can tell the difference.

Thanks for the info, If all else fails I will look into that

One plus side of sewing one would be to tailor it to a more feminine shape, rather then a boys/mens shape but I will definitely keep that in mind!

Thanks!

Just wanted to note an update :) Too excited to wait til tomorrow!

We used the new material and made the shirt from the pattern I designed. All that's left now is sewing the name tapes on and the buttons. We did the hemming, the collar, sewed the pockets on and sewed the rank patch on the sleeve, and did the button holes tonight. It's like 3AM now though haha

Tomorrow it's buttons, name tapes and Velcro for the pocket flaps (just to secure them down for a neater look)

It's far from perfect, we screwed up in a few places we know of and probably some places we haven't noticed yet haha, but we had a few laughs and had fun :)

Tonight I requested a quote for the rest of the patches, will likely confirm tomorrow, but it will be about a month before I get them. If my designs turn out I may consider doing more runs if there's demand :)

Next week we'll start on the pants! YAY!

Pictures tomorrow, goodnight!!!

Hey, Moosh, did you ever find another option for the boots? I'm sure if you want the other ones, someone in the US would be glad to take shipment and forward them on to you in Canada.

I did find an online store that ships to Canada, so I think I am covered for the boots whenever I decide to order them, but thanks for the heads up! :) Right now I am focusing on the Service C outfit.

I ran into a snag with the patches, The place I was going to go with had like, crazy prices for small runs upon closer inspection. So I think I am buggered for a few patches. My designs, I will have to do what Dom does and gauge interest in the PX. I wonder if people will order some of mine in a slightly smaller size? haha I will make a thread there detailing my plans in a few minutes. They'd be good for womens outfits or kids outfits! I should wait until I have a quote from a place I am happy with first. Say a run of 20 pieces or so.

EDIT: You know, I might as well get them done through work, I'll talk to my bosses when they get back from their trip. I am pretty sure they can even do silkscreen patches.

Dom if you are reading this, expect another PM soon haha, sorry!

Anyway, I can't wait to share photos of the shirt, but my seamstress is outside working in the yard while it snows... brrrr!!!, She is a true Canadian, through and through... I must have been adopted from some tropical country or something... I hate snow!!! and cold!!!

Yes, there are flaws here and there, some more glaring then others, it was our first finished product, for someone who hasn't sewn in 10 years, and someone who can't physically sew, but came up with their first pattern for a shirt... but I think we did a pretty good job!

The pockets were tough for her to sew haha, I think this is the 3rd set we made haha, one is alittle wonky with the stitching but I had her put it on the wearers left, so the ship patch will eventually hide it haha. But they definitely have the screen accurate shape. I will add velcro to the flaps to hold them down flat, as they kinda float up a wee bit.

The neck hole was too wide, so we had to do some funky stitching on the collar that you can't see at the back due to the hanger, but no one will see it when I am wearing it either, plus, I needed the wider shoulder room in the back too, so although it seems weird, it works, which is more important to me in the end.

I designed it so it was more "tailored" to give it a more feminine look, and I gave it a slight "V-neck" too.

The beige thread we had was alittle lighter than the fabric we used (because we had a lighter fabric before) but hopefully with age and a few washes it will blend in better. It doesn't look bad, the most noticable parts are the button hole stitches, but the buttons do a good job of covering most of it.

Overall I am really happy with our work! hahaha, and we had fun too!

Now, to work on the pants (which will be easier) and get the patches sorted out!

Thanks but I can't take the credit for that, camotech made a gunny patch that had the Pulse rifle on it, I just removed a chevron and the bottom rockers and had her make that haha.

I can't wait to get my other patches sorted. Still need to find the time to message Dom again about his patches too. Hopefully next week we can start the pants, I got some nice soft flannel in the right colour so they will be really lightweight and soft. Just need to measure a favourite pair of dress pants I already own to get the right fit :)
