The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I really wasn't surprised that the fake as hell proto-pulse rifles from the Prometheus website weren't actually in the film, but I was sad that we didn't get much in the way of new weaponry.

It looks like in the director's cut we will at least have these pistols to look forward to:

Anyone have an idea of what they are? Scratch built? Modified from an existing weapon?

Personally, I like 'em; they make me think of a broom handle Mauser crossed with something more modern.

Looks like a Hammerli Sp 20 to me..

Edit: Was close.. Apparantly, it's a Walther GSP Expert.

I don't know Rumpelteazer, the Hammerli Sp 20 looks closer than the Walther to me. But I'm no expert.

Hunterkiller: I think there will be some re-editing of the fight scene with the zombie geologist that will place Weyland in the middle of that fight. Maybe not, but I can't imagine there's *another* random attacker/monster/red herring in the cargo bay.

I was pretty sure it was a Walther the day the trailer came out. While they barely get any screentime in the theatrical cut I'm still pretty sure they are indeed Walther GSPs. .32 caliber because the extended mag is only available for the .32. In the other photo on IMFDB you can make out the wedge shaped charging handle, too.

At least I hope that's what they are, otherwise I've no idea what I'm going to do with this...

I've found that the IMFDB gets it right more often than not, and even goes into details that you may or may not have noticed in the movie itself. Like in Predators, the minigun was apparantly spinning at the same speed the cameras were going, so it looked like the gun was firing but the barrels weren't moving.

Using target pistols in a sci-fi movie was lame and lazy in the Star Wars prequels and it was lame in this one. I dunno why they couldn't have fabbed something a little more realistic and practical. Look at the trouble they went to in Aliens for the Pulse Rifle and smartgun. The VP70 was advanced looking yet practical. At least when Vasquez unloaded into that alien head with the S&W it didn't look silly.

Considering the incredible amount of money that's spent on a production like PROMETHEUS, studios and producers will almost always try to cut costs wherever possible. When you take into the account the very short amount of screen time the weapons used in PROMETHEUS actually have, to spend even more money to fabricate weapons that aren't essential to the plot (unlike those for ALIENS), the time and cost would (to them) seems uneccesary. I'm not saying I like it, but that's the way it is. Personally, I think it may have been very likely that the .32 Walther GSP was chosen because it's futuristic look and all blue finish matches the look of the spacesuits very nicely.

That's just speculation, though.

The Holy Grail of what could have been:

http://benprocter.squarespace.com/prome ... ps-rovers/

So this is what the Pulse Rifles in Prometheus could have looked like, as designed by Ben Procter, the Senior Concept Artist on the film. I think this should be on someone's list of props to build, don't you?

Edit: I couldn't link directly to the image, so follow the link and then click on the picture of the guy in the spacesuit.

Man, the longer I look at the back of that Prometheus Pulse Rifle the more it looks like the old 1980's Laser Tag pistols. I have about six of those in my basement...
