The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

While browsing a certain auction website i came across the Aliens Tech Manual. I already have a copy, the one with the dropship on the front. However, the copies i have seen have different covers. do they have the same contents or are they different?

All they updated (sadly) was the cover. A missed opportunity if you ask me...

I know the original had the alien head, and the 2nd editions have the drop ship, but am I crazy or did I also see a copy with the power loader on the cover?

Didnt a member here talk about an edition in the UK that said something along the lines of 'not for resale in north america' or something like that?

(borderline irrelavent, i know. All the same content...)

There was a cover with the Powerleader that said "cover art not final". In the end they just seemed to have tweaked the original art so that the dropship schematic is more prominent. If you do a Google image search for "Aliens Technical Manual" you can see the difference (and get a look at the Powerloader cover).

But seriously, with all the folks on AL with kickass gear and screen accurate uniforms (and even builds of some of Lee's invented weaponry), it would have been really cool if some of that could have been incorporated into the book.

Perhaps the AL community should self-publish a book? I have no idea how the licensing part of that would work though.

I think there was talk of doing something like this once, but doing it here on this site.
No one jumped on it though.

In my post about wanting to see some custom gear and expanded universe stuff (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=11586), right before the argument of the plausability of a 'face-hugger-proof mask' erupted, Jonsey the Cat had implied that he was taking a such a topic very seriously and looking for contributers. Not exactly sure how deep he was or if he was getting the help he asked for though.

(EDIT: Realized you were there and involved, Retro! no need to recap it for you...)

At least I do not have to incur the cost of getting other manuals. I think the manual is ok but thought there was a lot left out. I also think some of the artwork was a little poor as if it was scribbled on bog role while sitting on the bog lol. Its a shame it was not updated.

I think it is great, and for the most part I like the art, but there are places where additional art could have been added. What if each of the "quotes" from Marines was accompanied by a photo of said person (i.e. AL members)?
