Man, if Gaffa tape cost £1.90 a roll over here, I'd be a happy man!

It's not quite Brown Bess, but not quite Olive Drab... it appears to be somewhere in the middle:

When placed against Brown Bess, it looks a tinge too green... but against Olive Drab, it looks a tinge too brown. For Brown Bess being sort of a fickle color, I pretty damn pleased with the color of this tape matching as closely as it does.

Keep in mind that although it may appear to really closely match my motion tracker above, the color on that Master Replicas piece is not truly Brown Bess, so it's not a completely fair comparison for you Brown Bess purists out there.

As I had already corrected above... probably only 20-day old tape. Rest assured, it is quite soft and supple, and darn sticky too. And please Dom, don't ask to touch it.

I've never bought this stuff before, let alone price it out... what does this stuff normally run in 50' (15.24m) rolls?

Here's another color comparison shot (this time with my newly acquired leg drop), again because Brown Bess is a tricky color to match correctly:

The tape has definitely got more brown going on as compared to the greens of this piece of kit. It's got some sort of a Brown Bess thing going on if nothing else.

Actually, proper gaffer's tape is getting harder to find at a decent price. It used to be that you could buy it in alot of places but these days the only options are production supply houses and naturally their prices tend to run a little higher than your average cheap DIY supplier.

The reason?
Everyone confuses it with Duct tape. You see tape listed as Gaffer/Duct tape all the time but they're not the same thing.

Duct tape is sticky as hell and leaves behind the worst mess imaginable when removed. Gaffer tape leaves little to no residue which is why it's used - The last thing you want is to leave all that sticky mess after you've taped cables to the floor or gantry; or worse when it's been stuck to a camera or boom.

I see tpaes-direct.co.uk sell it as "camera grade gaffer/cloth/duct tape", they're asking nearly $20 a roll.

You might search it online as 100 MPH tape....

Thats what we use in the Army...and we call it 100 MPH tape.
