Exactly what I was thinking.
Actually, this totally reminds me of the Star Wars prequels where for the OLDER technology was far more streamlined and advanced than that of the original films which were taking place later in the Lucas timeline.
Unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose), today's real world technology and designs for special effects in film are so much more advanced that it sometimes directly contradicts the proper technological/design advancement in chronological story-telling prequels such as this.
One recent exception that does come to mind however was the 2011 version of "The Thing", which was actually a prequel to John Carpenter's 1982 version. They did a very good job making you believe it took place and was filmed in the very same time period. I was actually pleasantly surprised and quite impressed with how that story was written, how the characters interacted with one another, and how this was all envisioned to come together on film to make you believe it could have been entirely filmed back in 1982.
Although I do hope it proves to be a good thrillride of a film, I think Prometheus is going to come across as too advanced for us to actually believe it took place PRIOR to the Alien Quadrilogy. Most of the tech I've seen so far looks completely out of place, and I get a very different feeling when looking at it -- a feeling like this is more of a Space 1999 remake with updated Jerry Anderson designs and modern-day superhero costumes.
I really do hope I'm wrong though.
