So this has been bugging me a while, and I sorta worry about offending armor makers everywhere...but I need to get an answer if one exists (If the answer is "Because Terry English said so", then oh well. I will live with it [and i suspect that is the answer]).
When I see the movie, screen grabs, and pics of original prop helmets, I see a low profile, sleek, 3-4" tall front plate. - Much of the M1 pot is visible above the plate, even from a straight on view. - From the Hudson Helmet on the HarryHarris site, I notice how the top of front plate has a subtle, mostly horizontal arc off the corner of the camera, nothing crazy. -On the other side, the highest point of the front plate is only a tad higher overall than the highest point of the ear flap assembly/plate.
Now, in STARK contrast, I see every other reproduction EVER (ready made, kit form, peprakura, and even 2 diff. examples that TERRY ENGLISH's hand made himself!!!) ...and they ALL have these tall, arcing, HUGE front plates. -A pronounced, mostly vertical arc off the camera plate, if it makes any contact at all. -easily clear 2"+ above the ear flap plates -Crazy tall plates (6-7" high on some) that seem to envelope the entire front of the helmet and cover all but the very tippy top of the M1 pot.
In my humblest opinion, and I truly dont mean to offend any of the hard working reproducers out there; Low profile plate = Sleek and Cool. Tall huge = Blount looking turtle shells that vex me terribly. This is why I wonder "why the difference/change?"
Has anyone else noticed? If so, what do prefer? ...or am I just OCD and this is not a big deal as I seem to think it is?
