Having earlier announced it had secured the Alien film license, SEGA has now announced that Gearbox Software, the acclaimed developer of the Brothers in Arms franchise, is to head up development of an all-new Alien-licensed first-person shooter for next-gen systems.
Gearbox Software's FPS based on the Alien film franchise will retain the atmospheric look and feel of the films, but promises to leverage "next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Alien experience."
"The Alien series has been a tremendous influence for myself, the people at Gearbox Software and the video games industry in general," said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software. "The opportunity to work with the amazing people at SEGA and Fox to build a next generation video game in the Alien universe is one of those dream projects that is a perfect fit for our capability and our passion."
No release date has been announced, but SEGA have said that the first title to use the Alien license will be released in 2009. The FPS joins the previously announced Alien RPG in development by Obsidian Entertainment.
