The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ok, time to get this build thread updated. Apologies to Frank Peters first off, he was drooling all over the M56 kit at Leicester for our Halloween drop and I promised him build progress pics as soon as I could. I have the tendency to get engrossed in a project and while I have taken photos of the build progress, I forget to upload them on my laptop. Any of you who are friends with me on facebook will have seen these in my build album but here they are again........

So, I wore the rig for 5 1/2 hours on Saturday at Cardiff. Firstly It's impressively light and comfy and secondly got lots of attention!

I need to wind more of the battery lead around the arm and gun. From the users perspective the lead wasn't that long, looking at the picture It's nearly to the floor!

The chest plate could sit a little higher I feel and the arm, whilst nice and free on it's own tends to stick a little with the weight of the gun. I've ordered some small bearings to upgrade the arm joints and will show that progress when they arrive.

Lastly the gun sits at an angle, sloping away from me. Not a massive problem but it bugs me a little. Maybe I'll fabricate a new interface joint with an upward bias to allow for that and I may substitute the resin forward grip for one I'll make from steel tube as this seems to be the only weak point in the whole kit.

On the whole, DAMN am I happy! Not only with the M56, but I'm proud of my scratch built harness and arm too, works like a charm!

Now my project is to cut down that flight case (MAN that thing is BIG) to get it in the car, but as of now.........there's another Smartgunner in town!

You should be proud, Steve, you did an amazing job!

Especially with the rig, given me hope for next year when I (hopefully) start upgrading mine to be a bit more accurate.

I found mine was sloping at an angle as well - at NSC I made some adjustments that seemed to help.

Firstly, getting the rig as tight as i could possibly stand (I had to breath in so much when clipping the waist in I was turning funny shades of purple!), adjusting the spring tension to get the arms relatively level and moving the mounting point a little more centralised. This seemed to really help with making it much more balanced and level than it had been.

Steve, you did an amazing job! Thanks for the pictures.

It’s always great to have another Smartgunner in town.
Glad to hear that it works like a charm for you and you have found a big enough flight case.
