My second comment for the day ! Here are two pix of my ammo drum, somewhat modified to make it look more screen accurate - Not much info to go on with this, but I think maybe it is close ?? The LED ammo counter is a decoy at the moment, but I have a working counter I will install sooner or later !! ![]() All constructive criticism is welcome ! ![]() Questions are also welcome, I might add ! ![]()

Very True! Time I got back to business. I am thinking I should actually "start at the beginning" as the pix above rather start in the middle, as it were. Betting a few of you are interested in seeing how it got to where it is ?? ![]() |

Well, yes... "The beginning" being ( If that's built on a Shoei ) "How in the HELL did you find one of those? ( And what the hell do you do for a living? )" :p |

Good eye, Scapey ! It is a Shoei. I bought it New from a dealer way back in 2006. Got a pretty good price, imho, all things considered. As for my line of work, I'm a technical service engineer, with a company that provides the hardware which keeps your local Petrol Station pumping. |

Yeah, I figured. There are other manufacturers that make non-GBB versions that aren't quite expensive. I was wondering if it might be one of those, instead. |

Okay - going back in our time machine I found the pix i took of the MG42 before the conversion process began. These pix may be boring for some of you, but for those who want to know all the gory details, I feel obligated to post 'em. ![]()

An interesting side note to this early phase of construction : The factory cocking handle mechanism got broken in transit, and being made from "pot-metal" could not be brazed or welded or epoxied. So the complete cocking mechanism you see in these photos is from a real MG42. I bought it on gunbroker dot com for a very reasonable price, and it fits and works perfectly, and is built from German high-carbon steel ![]() Further along you will see a few more real MG42 parts that have been incorporated for one reason or another ! ![]() |

Just out of interest, did you end up keeping the airsoft internals? |
Author: | david [ Mon Feb 20, 2012 3:51 pm ] |
Post subject: | Re: David's smartgun build |
Yes, all the airsoft internals have been retained. I want to be able to rock-n-roll, you know ! wink, wink. will run her off compressed CO2 with regulator to get pressure down to spec. and a long, thin flex line to get the pressure down to the gun. Line will run with wiring along the support arm, so it will not be obvious ! ![]() |
