The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

But we still need to get my paper plans from my hands to yours, in some way shape or form!
Which seemed like scanning into a PDF would be easiest,
assuming Insty-Prints has a BIG scanner.
Mine only does 8" X 10" sheets, max.
But I am pleased and flattered to share them with the group!

Hmmmmm
perhaps if I inked them first
they are in pencil at the moment
and that would have to be a large, high-resolution photo ! :O

As I hope to post new pictures tomorrow,
what do you want to see next ?
how the rear hand grip was done?
or the beginnings of my scratch built support arm ?

The thing that surprises me, is that a few posts back I described how I plan to spring load my home made support arm.
And so far not even one person has commented on my rather odd/unique approach to skinning that cat !!! :o

Okay, Reaper !
Here are the plans for the Chest Armour Plate !
It is a reasonably large JPG format image
( created in PhotoDeLuxe )
and is reasonably to scale.
I am very excited to see how it looks in CAD !!
It is meant to be cut from sheet metal, folded, and then
soldered, brazed, or welded along the seams.
But there is no reason it can't be done other ways, too.

Enlarge it to twice actual size !
They are drawn at Half Scale !
Just check any printed dimension with a scale or ruler
to make sure it is actual size !
:D

Your measurements are off (very common problem when scaling up), CAD wise, the edges wont join up.

If you could measure the widest part horizontally and the tallest part (vertically) it would help me out allot :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm-
I am baffled -
how can the edges not mate up?
mine does, and all the dimensions are pulled off my full size part.
? ? ?

It may be your angles, if one is off by one degree then it'll mean that side won't join up, or if it does the new angle of the face will throw all the others out. It's all about precision with anything cad wise.

If you give me the measurements I requested above then I can alter the model to get a better fit :)

Thanks for all the comments and questions everyone! I appreciate your interest very much !

Not to get off topic too far, but here is my newest addition to the collection.
At long last I have my Torch. ( welder ).

Purchased on line from a group in England - very high quality resin casting.

Only change I am planning is I will not be using the plastic viewer included with the kit,
as I have some awesome smoked/tinted Plexiglass ( 1/8th. inch thick )
which will look perfect for the dark tinted viewer as seen in the film !!!

Okay Troops!
Here is my viewer lens, made from smoked ( tinted ) plexiglass !
It is hard to photograph plexiglass bits, by the way !! :O
I think my lens looks very much like the one in the movie ! 8)
I have two electric welders in my shop for restoring my little European sports cars,
so I am aware this lens is not truly dark enough.
But if it was properly dark, you could not see through it without a welding arc !

Nice job! I cut down a piece of glass from a welding mask for mine, It's nice and thick, looks dark enough and you can just about see through it with a strong light source behind.

And not meaning to hijack your build thread but I used your template today for a test chest plate while I wait for my Matsuo one to arrive. Excellent work, it fits like a charm!!
