The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello!
Just a heads up for those concerned about the sentry gun tripod being backwards, you can totally rotate it around to how it's supposed to be with no problems.

Hey knoxvilles_joker, as a detail guy here's a thread I think you're going to love:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15162&hilit=sentry+gun+battery

So the Sentry Gun battery is a military radio (see the link). The tripod seems to have been built just for the film, along with the outer housing covering the machine gun.

Are you sure they're not just stuck in place? I could swear I've read about other people rotating theirs the right way around...

I looked at them and I couldn't even find a joint of any sort...maybe I didn't look hard enough. I also took one and tried to manually rotate it, thinking the joint would just "show up". Nothing presented itself.

Hello! You're actually looking for a swivel, not a joint. Try grasping it by the swivel ends and it should rotate here's a pic:

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I "eyed" that area thinking it the logical place for some sort of swivel/joint, but it wouldn't budge when I tried turning it. Probably fowled up with paint.

Yeah, sometimes the plastic sticks a bit. If it's caked on with paint, a small X-acto blade is great to unclog it, and of course the ol' soak it warm water should help to soften up the plastic so it's more malleable! Keep trying, you'll get it! :D

With a little gentle pressure and hot water, I was able to unlock the pivot points on both of mine, thanks for the info on where the joint was.

Oh, and I was wanting to post my NECA collection and customs work. Would this be a good thread to post them at, or should I begin a new thread?

I think this would be a fine place to post them, hence the "and more" that's in the title. :)

Well, most recently, I decided to tweak my Frost figure by adding the half-rolled sleeves, making him a little more screen accurate. I started by carefully slicing his fore arms, then giving them a good once over with a dremel, using a bit of green stuff to help fill in and smooth out. I then used Model Master brand matte leather color paint for his base skin tone, then applied a very light black wash to get the skin tone as close as possible to the figures actual complexion.

When I first got him out of the package, I quickly noticed that his USCM patch, as well as his American flag patch were both missing! To remedy this, I delicately sliced off the needed patches from a spare Hudson figure (I also used his sleeve cuffs as well  ), sanded it down to where it was flush with the patch templates on his sleeves, a dab of Krazy glue and BAM! Now Frost has his patches!

I closely tried to eyeball approximate Brown Bess as best I could for his flamer and tracker by referencing screen shots, movie stills etc,

Next up, is Hicks.
He is the series one version, so his skin was still painted. I used Testors matte dark tan around the contours of his face and biceps to add a bit more definition and depth. I cut off the molded knife from his webbing, and replaced it with a scaled Explorer Night Raider knife found from an old Mcfarlane zombie Spawn. The sheath used was pulled from the Mcfarlane Hicks and they fit perfectly together. After gluing it back to his webbing, I went over it with strip of electrical tape for added realisim. On the other side of his straps, I cut away the grenades and also replaced them with the Mcfarlane Hicks, as I think they look a little better. His headset was surprisingly easy to craft. Using the headset stalk from MF Hicks, the headset piece was formed from black bendy wire used in any figure bought these days, and the side clip was cut with an X-acto from a wooden coffee stirrer then finally assembled with green stuff and repainted.

Here, we have Hudson. Like Hicks, he is a series one. I also detailed his face with Testors matte dark tan and touched up his bandage with a bit of dark tan, as well as little bits of red to show bandage seepage. For his armor, I also sliced off the molded Gerber from his webbing, and replaced it with the one that came with Bishop. Until recently, I used a sheath from the old Resaurus Plan B Special Forces figures to hold the MKII. Once the new Vasquez figure came out, I used her leg sheath, and using a tiny bit of leftover green stuff, I sculpted on the snap strip. On the other side of his web straps, I touched up his eagle pendant with Testors flat steel to make it pop out a little more. I tied on the Japanese love knot using a piece of string off some olive drab paracord I had laying around, then sealed it on using a small drop of glue.
I also modified the ear flap cover on his helmet by swapping it from a CC Mcfarlane Hicks helmet, then attached it to Hudson's helmet with green stuff, then painted it to match the cloth cover.

Thank you, bigbisont for the kind words! For your eBay hunting, you're looking for SPAWN MUTATIONS Al Simmons Zombie Soldier. What's cool about that figure are the accessories he comes with, which are great for custom work!
If it helps, the rifles in my armory came from years of collecting! There are rifles from Resaurus Plan B Special Forces figures (which aren't quite to scale with The NECA figures, but they work for display), as well as various Mcfarlane Military rifles (much more to scale, I think)
As for the gun rack itself, I scoured over continuity photos from the movie, but mostly I used template pictures posted here by another user (I can't think of his name offhand, but he does amazing papercraft work). Using those pictures, I made a template for the frame, then hand sawed and dremeled it out using basswood. It was a fun project, but it took a few months of working a little at a time before it came together! I did document as much of the build process as I could, and will post pictures of it soon! :delta: :D

So, moving on to Vasquez.
To be honest, I really didn't have to do too much to either version!
I added the Night Raider dagger from MF Hicks, and chopped up an old rifle sling to use as the straps and painted them up on both figures.
For the smart gunner Vasquez, all I did was add to waist straps by using scrap parts from oher figures, but it really brought her rig together! I also lightly weathered her armor, and painted the bit of red on the base of her headset plug.
For the second version, I removed her vest and painted her shirt with a basic flat olive drab. I then detailed her dog tags with the help of a magnifying glass. Incidentally, I love the detail work Neca put in to Vasquez! If you look super close, sure enough, you can see her teardrop tattoo! You can even read her name tape, and all the text on her Sulaco patch!

Here are my Ripley figures. You may notice her heads are different. I never liked the way Neca did the Aliens Ripley. To me, I think she looks a little pie faced, and flat. I much prefer Sigourney's likeness from the Alien 3 figures much more. So, I swapped out the heads, and used the hair from the Aliens version, and POW! Now we have hot lips Ripley! I think it looks much better now!
