Very nice work. I love the homage to Hudson with the 8ball and the colours and camo pattern looks very faithful to the movie versions. Im saving up to get a spat helmet of my own, they must make awesome display pieces. |

thanks for all the kind words guys! stonedog i HIGHLY recommend spat's armor and helmet. such accuarte high quality items for fantastic prices. and also very easy to dismantle in order to customise if need be. ok PVB, i'll try and quickly explain how i painted it. first up i removed the inner, the camera and the lobster plates. then i gave it all a light sanding then primed it all with grey car primer. once that was dry i spray painted all parts with tamiya TS-28 olive drab 2 (this turned out to be too green and made the helmet "cartoon" looking). then i painted on the camo using a 50/50 mix of games workshop "beastiel brown" and "chaos black" acrylic paint for the dark brown, revell enamel matt 88 paint from a tin for the lighter sandy brown and neat GW "chaos black" for the black camo pattern. after seeing how "green" the tamiya spray came out i went back over those parts with revell enamel 42 paint which as far morw accurate to the movie. at this point the helmet did look very clean and still very cartoon like, but there is something that turned it all around......black pigment powder!!! This stuff is GREAT for making stuff look old and used. once all the paint had dried i put some of the pigment powder onto a dish and using an old rag just rubbed it all over the helmet. it dulls the colors right down but still allows you to see the different colors showing through AND it is vert matt so all the shine from the paints goes and makes the overall piece look very real and battle worn. of course you have to seal all this powder in so i used a light coat of games workshop satin varnish to seal it all on. Hope that helps ![]() |
