The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Was lucky enough to talk to one of the set builders from Aliens the other day and was wondering if someone here could help. I'm looking to try and locate these floor planks that run alongside the pallets:

Image

He told me:

Quote:
"The metal stirps with the perforated slots that run either side of the pallets are standard 9" wide Dexion planks."

But I have no idea what those are or where to find them? Most likely in the UK where the set was built. If anyone could help point me in the right direction it's be VERY much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

As Matt says, they're a standard grid drainage system, used to remove fluid from wide paved areas, such as gas stations, etc. or metal flooring.

Probably this Dexion:

http://www.dexion.co.uk/Product-Categor ... d-Fencing/

They also supply plastic and metal pallets.

Willie,

if I recall correctly, you were also looking for the "light tubes" - did your conversation solve that mystery as well?

Cheers,
Stefan

I wish - they were a custom job, but he couldn't remember who made them...

Look like catwalk planks to me. I've worked on many a billboard with only two of those to stand on.

There is a place a mile or two away that have something like this. Where you'd get them from. I don't know. But i know they are used for easy drainage as they are connected to the path way!

That's what I said.

They're also used in the gun racks for the PRs, SA-80s, etc.

But the same item is also used as part of grid metal flooring, such as provided by Dexion. :)

Nah, can't find it. Not even sure they do that now, especially as the company has changed over the years, but here's another make of similar grid drainage:

hi Willie,
Dexion's site is http://www.dexion.co.uk however as Steve says they don't appear to do anything similar now.

I tried searching the site for both "Trench Drain Covers" and "Channel Drain Covers" both without success. :(

I'd already linked to Dexion in my first post. :D

It was part of a metal flooring system, or they used to do drainage as well.

Either way, there's lots of grid drain covers of that type around, including in the US, so it shouldn't be hard to find one. :)

Just got this response - wonder if there are more then one companies?

Quote:
Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately you have contacted Dexion Comino Ltd in the UK who are
suppliers of racking and shelving and have no relation to any companies
trading as Dexion or any other products.

I also have no contact details for you but suggest you search the
internet specifying the Dexion product you are after.

Kind regards

Jodie Colbourne
Dexion Comino Ltd

Re. the response: Maybe they're not the same company as back in the 1980s?

I just took that as they now sell metal flooring (that involves slotted sections), they'd be the one.
Just because some customer service rep now says they don't have it, doesn't mean they didn't sell it back then.

Nearest match is this one:

http://www.mcnichols.com/products/grati ... d-surface/

But those are at least 9" across, which I think is about 3" too wide.

This one can be 6" wide:

Another likely supplier:

http://www.channeldrainage.com/

Actually, yeah, looking at the brown drainage pipes next to it, the wider pipe would likely be 6" and the smaller one 4", making the grid about 9" across. :)

Right?

I'm trying to be as accurate as possible - how many little "bumps" or traction grips do you think are on the original screen used ones?
